~ Wind Serpent Ibushi |
Wind Serpent Ibushi is the secondary antagonist of Monster Hunter Rise. He is a male Elder Dragon and the mate of Thunder Serpent Narwa who arrives in Kamura every 50 years, sending out devastating storms to clear out an area for the two to mate and rear offspring. This prompts the nearby monsters to evacuate the area, causing the Rampage which endangers Kamura twice every century.
Appearance[]
Despite being an Elder Dragon, Ibushi lacks his class's typical hexapodal body structure and instead has a body form somewhat resembling a seahorse. He possesses a light blue carapace with short spikes on his back, a white rubbery underbelly and reduced hind legs that possess fins. Ibushi also possesses fourteen wind sacs on his body: three on each arm, three on his tail, two on his chest and three on his back. These wind sacs each terminate in a light blue point and have small dots arranged in lines on them. Ibushi's tail also has five small vents which glow red with dragon energy when he's enraged. Similar to his mate, Ibushi possesses a crocodilian head and two sets of jaws: an exterior jaw with a toothless, wide lower jaw, and inner jaws split down the middle with teeth. However, Ibushi also possesses a crest made of several blunt spines, with some angled forwards.
When enraged, Ibushi's eyes glow red and he crackles with dragon energy. His tail also swells up and its vents glow red.
Biography[]
It is known that Wind Serpent Ibushi wandered through the sky, trying to find Thunder Serpent Narwa in order to breed, around every fifty years they meet each other. In order to do so, Ibushi traversed the land, using its mastery over wind to destroy everything in his way in order to find his queen. A ramification of this is that monsters caught in the crossfire were essentially herded towards Kamura Village in events known as the Rampage. The Rampage has occurred with relative frequency throughout the fifty years and has resulted in numerous casualties, but the village hunter always managed to divert the horde. Ibushi is also responsible for the Apex phenomenon, powerful versions of standard monsters that lead the rampages.
Ibushi often float upside down in the games thanks to a special gas that he emits. He can modulate this gas to allow it to float in ways most other monsters can't. He first appeared after a rampage helmed by Apex Arzuros was finished. After possessing Hinoa, it was learned that Ibushi's ultimate goal was to reunite with his queen. Ibushi next appeared as a boss in a wave of the Rampage, the hunters must use the weapons to guard the village from Ibushi's attacks before he could enter Kamura. If the time goes out before the village gets destroyed, or the hunter defeats Ibushi, Ibushi will disappear into the sky. In the game's original ending, Ibushi who was possessing Hinoa and Narwa who was possessing Minoto planned to eventually meet and destroy everything in the area in order for their offspring to be safe.
After the 3.0 update, Ibushi was later seen in Narwa's nest in the Coral Palace, which he seems to be guarding it while Narwa hid underground. In this battle, Ibushi acts more aggressive than the previous battle and has more abilities like better control over wind and the ability to manipulate the buried artillery like Narwa. After being defeated, Ibushi fells to the ground, creating a wide, deep hole and falls down with the hunter, falling into Narwa's nest. Ibushi, now very weak and on the brink of death, approaches Narwa and offers his strength up to her, an apparently common practice in their species. Thus, Narwa obliges and sucks up his remaining energy, leaving his corpse to fall to the floor lifelessly.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Supernatural physical attributes: As an Elder Dragon, Ibushi possesses supernatural physical attributes, being strong enough to send the hunter flying with just a twirl, durable enough to withstand an onslaught of attacks, so much so that it can be fought multiple times without dying, and resilient enough that it can keep on fighting despite multiple broken parts.
- Aerial agility: Despite his large size, Ibushi is surprisingly agile, being capable of executing elegant manoeuvres mid-air, as well as performing mating dances with its mate Narwa.
- Flight: Possessing numerous wind sacs which contain an incredibly light gas, Ibushi is capable of floating about and flying, often doing so upside-down.
- Animalistic intelligence: Ibushi is rather intelligent for a monster, being capable of conveying its desire to meet with Narwa via resonance with Hinoa. He can also use his environment strategically by hurling rocks at the hunter, knocking them down before throwing them into the air with a blast of wind.
- Aerokinesis: Using the wind sacs on his body, Ibushi can generate and manipulate powerful winds which it can use to conjure gigantic storms, capable of sending monsters from all parts of Kamura fleeing from them. Only the strongest monsters can survive these storms, and even then they’re left with terrible scars and an overwhelming fear of Ibushi.
- Dragon energy manipulation: Ibushi possesses a control over dragon energy which manifests as a red lightning around his body. Ibushi often uses this power to enhance his physical attacks and occasionally incorporates it into his winds. He can also hurl orbs of pure dragon energy at opponents.
- Telepathy: By emitting electromagnetic waves, Ibushi can broadcast his thoughts telepathically to Narwa, allowing the two to find each other. Certain Wyverians can intercept and interpret the Serpents’ messages, with Hinoa being attuned to Ibushi himself.
