Wiseman, also known as God, is the overarching main antagonist of the 1983 mecha anime Armoured Trooper VOTOMs, as well as a boss in various Super Robot Wars games. He is the God of the Astragius Galaxy and the subject of the Secret Society's worship, who manipulated Balarant and Gilgamesh into starting the war with each other. He is also the one who speaks to Chirico Cuvie, and manipulates him to become the new God.

He was voiced by Hidekatsu Shibata, who also voiced the male half of Baron Ashura in Mazinger Z.

Personality

Wiseman is a very manipulative entity who is only interested in wanting his goals to succeed, choosing those to succeed him as God and someone to help raise the Child. Both of these plans involved Chirico Cuvie, who refused these offers.

Biography

Prior to the events of the series, Wiseman was once one of the Overmen, a race of superhuman beings from the planet known as Quent. They ruled over the Astragius Galaxy three hundred years before the series' events. However, they planned to take control of the Astragius Galaxy. Following the Civil War, he was banished to several parts of the Galactic Frontier. Since then, he inhabited a computer system, and secretly employed Colonel Jean-Paul Rochina as his servant. As the series progresses, it eventually reveals that Chiricio Cuvie was born to be the sucessor of God and to take his place.

Towards the end of the series in the last few episodes, Chirico begins to answer to Wiseman, making it seem like he is the loyal servant of him and the one set to succeed Wiseman. However, it is eventually revealed that Chirico was pretending to do this just so he could get to him. When Albert Killy finds out that Chirico is the one chosen to become God (the new successor to Wiseman), he becomes shocked, and Wiseman then kills Albert. At the end, Chirico enters Wiseman's brain and Wiseman appears to Chirico as a group of robed figures, before they disappear. He then reveals to Chirico that he has manipulated his life and has saved him from time to time. However, Chirico removes the memory modules causing Wiseman to power down.

Wiseman later reappears in Armoured Trooper VOTOMs: Phantom Arc, an OVA follow-up to the original TV series. This series reveals that he teleported himself and some of the Quentians out at the last minute at the end of the original series. Chirico then agrees his request to raise the Child and then turns Wiseman off, killing him for good and resulting in him unable to educate the Child. After the tower explodes in the last episode, Wiseman shifts his consciousness to another device located in another part of the universe and continues to interfere with Chirico after the series.

Other Media

Super Robot Wars

Wiseman also appears in Super Robot Wars Z2: Saisei-Hen, playing the same role that he had in TV series. He is shown to be able to snap C.C. out of her amnesiac state. Later on, he fights the heroes using an army of Bloodsucker Armoured Troopers and is defeated by Chirico Cuvie. He reappears in Super Robot Wars Z3: Hakai-Hen, where he plays the same role that he had in the Phantom Arc OVA. Here, Wiseman, assisted by Montewells, Kan-Yu and various Firebugs, mercenaries, and followers, fights the heroes using copies of the battleship that was featured in the Armoured Trooper VOTOMs: Big Battle OVA. He then makes another appearance in Super Robot Wars T.
