NOTE: Not to be confused with the fraction Monolith. This article is dedicated to the legend of the Monolith as an entity within the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. universe. Particularly the Monolithian belief.

Your path has come to an end, human. Come to me.

Monolith commonly referred as the Wish Granter is a legend and the deity of the cult-like fraction Monolith in the Ukrainian FPS Survival Horror franchise S.T.A.L.K.E.R..

The Monolith is a legendary entity that, according to the local folklore, can grant any wish to those worthy enough to reach its resting place deep within the most dangerous locations in the Zone, its center, the Sarcophagus.

Legend[]

Due to its enigmatic nature and the inability to get to the Wish Granter, many legends formed around it, from its participation in creating the Zone to it being from an alien origin.

According to its worshippers, the Monolith is a deity that came to save the world from heresy, evil and despair. The Monolithians fanatically follows the Wish Granter's desires and dreams by bringing new members and killing "heretics".

Religion & Beliefs[]

The Wish Granter is worshipped by the Monolith all throughout the north part of the Zone. According to their belief, the first man came in the Zone from the Monolith and sought to convince everyone in the Monolith's glory but everyone turned around and called him crazy, as a response, the Monolith created the Zone(Due to the lack of proper information, everything said above is purely speculated based on what the fanatics says themselves).

The Monolithians enter a trance while praying, violently shaking their upper body forward and backward but if they notice an enemy, they will immediately stop their worship and engage in a fight. The worshippers also have altars made out of hyperboloid constructions all throughout the city of Prypiat where they can properly worship the Monolith. Their prays can be divided into three categories: Normal trance, the fanatic slight shakes his body and will stop his prayer if attacked; Slight trance, the fanatic fully shakes his torso. He won't stop if approach but will end his prayer if hit; Deep trance, in this trance, the fanatic won't react to anything, not someone walking next to him and even not bullets. The fanatic will remain sitting unfazed.

The Monolithians are extremely hostile to everyone who isn't a believer, considering them heretics. They shown to be friendly with mutants and zombies, considering them "Monolith's creations" thus their allies.

Personality[]

Despite not showing much personality in-game, we can defiantly say that: The Wish Granter is a manipulative entity, it brainwashes and manipulates stalkers into his trap and turns them into fanatics, who are willing to kill for their faith. It also was shown to be quite egoistical, since it wants to kill all the heretics and constantly checks the Monolithians loyalty by sending them in dangerous and faith-doubting situations.

The wish grander appears to be a sadistic and tricky creature. It grants wishes to those who manage to approach him, just not in the way they want. It can be clearly in the 5 false endings:

  • Power, Strelok wishes for power, his soul enters the Monolith and makes him "all-powerful" but as part of the Monolith
  • Money, Strelok wishes for money, the Monolith makes Strelok see huge metal bars as golden coins, which eventually results in those metal bars falling from the roof and killing Strelok
  • Zone's disappearance, Strelok wishes for the Zone to disappear. The Wish Granter makes him blind, thus making the Zone "disappear" from his sight.
  • Extermination of humanity, Strelok wishes for humanity to disappear. The Wish Granter makes everything black for Strelok and, presumedly, destroys the world with humanity.
  • Immortality, Strelok wishes to become immortal and the Wish Granter turns him into a silver statue. making him "immortal".

Appearance[]

The Wish Granter is a huge crystal-like being with blue energy matter within it, surrounded by deadly levels of radiation. However, it's implied that its only his physical form.

Powers & Skills[]

  • Omnipotence: According to the Monolith faith, the Monolith is a all-powerful being that tests the powers of its believers by putting them into dangerous situations.
  • Omniscience: The Wish Granter is all-knowing being, but, according to the Monolith, it rarely warns its worshippers to see how they would handle difficulties.
  • Omnipresent: The Monolith observes its worshippers to seek for the mightiest of them to make its preacher.
