Hi. This is Thesecret1070. I am an admin of this site. Edit as much as you wish, but one little thing... If you are going to edit a lot, then make yourself a user and login. Other than that, enjoy Villains Wiki!!!
The wisps are the main antagonist of the Enterprise episode "The Crossing". They were a noncorporeal lifeform described as resembling wisps of vapour.
History[]
The wisps may once have had a physical existence since they existed inside a giant, powerful spaceship. When they encountered Enterprise, they disabled the ship and brought it inside their craft, creating an atmosphere that humans could survive in. Captain Archer, Commander Tucker and Lieutenant Reed exited the ship and saw the wisps, one of whom entered Tucker, briefly controlling his body while his consciousness existed as a wisp.
After the trio had returned to Enterprise, one of the wisps took control of Tucker again. Making little attempt to hide the fact, it told Archer they were explorers who existed in subspace and wanted to experience physical existence by temporarily swapping places with the crew, as it was with Tucker. Suspicious, Archer insisted the wisps return Tucker to normal and release Enterprise, which they did.
However, having now learned how to control human bodies, the wisps began possessing other crew, including Reed and Ensign Sato, and now showed no signs of leaving them. The possessed crewmembers were sealed in their quarters. The one possessing Sato made a failed attempt to escape by breaking Sato's leg and trying to jump Doctor Phlox when he came to treat her. They had less success controlling other species: Phlox proved resistance to an attempt to possess him, while Subcommander T'Pol was simply frozen in place. Her contact with the wisps caused her to learn their true intention: The wisps' ship was on the verge of collapse and they would be unable to survive in space. They thus hoped to replace Enterprise's crew and possibly do the same with other ships, using their bodies and ship to survive while the crew's consciousnesses would die with the wisps' ship.
Ensign Mayweather was able to escape a wisp by taking refuge in the catwalk, which they couldn't penetrate. Archer moved all the unaffected crewmembers bar Phlox there. They made a plan to flush the wisps from the crew's bodies by temporarily killing them, by changing the ship's atmosphere to carbon dioxide. One of the wisps managed to possess Tucker again and tried to stop Phlox but failed. Forced back into their old forms, the wisps pursued Enterprise in their ship, but before they could get close enough to disable it again, Enterprise opened fire on the wisps' ship and destroyed it.
