~ The Witch of Delays to Laura. |
The Witch of Destruction, also known as the Witch of Delays, is the secondary antagonist of the anime series Tropical-Rouge! Pretty Cure. She is the Pretty Cure and Cure Oasis' archenemy. She was loosely based on the Sea Witch from Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid.
She was voiced by Rei Igarashi.
Appearance[]
The Witch of Delays looks similar to a mermaid, with the upper half of her body being humanoid and the lower half resembling a fish or another aquatic creature. Her skin is green and she wears a purple coat. Most of her face is covered by a mask with four red lights where her eyes should be, so her true face cannot be seen. She also has a large physique, several times larger than a normal human.
Personality[]
The Witch of Delays is irritable and lazy, spending most of her time sleeping or simply laying in her bed. She is cunning and can read others' emotions, but she lacks energy and prefers to delegate the job to her subordinates. The Witch of Delays frequently procrastinates, rarely taking the initiative. When she is told by her butler that the Pretty Cure have appeared and are interfering with her plans she initially gets angry, but she replies that she will deal with them later and goes back to sleep.
She seems to have a dislike towards humans and especially towards mermaids working with them. The Witch of Delays shows interest when she hears that a mermaid, Laura, is helping the Pretty Cure. When Laura rejects her and became a Pretty Cure herself, the Witch is more irritated than usual, refusing to calm down and return to her listless resting.
Biography[]
A mysterious witch that lives in the bottom of the ocean, not much is known about the Witch of Delays. Before the start of the show, she attacked Grand Ocean, a country of mermaids. After stealing the mermaids' motivation power, making them lethargic, she set her sights towards the human world. Not much is known about her objective, but she says that if she collects enough motivation power she will be able to create her desired world.
Despite her laziness, the witch is obsessed with the goal of collecting motivation power, and she is in a hurry to accomplish her objective, which is opening the enigmatic Fool’s Casket in order to create a world of procrastination. Through her butler, Butler, she gives her servants a power-up so that they’re able to fight more effectively against the Pretty Cure.
The Witch of Delays becomes actively involved when she hears that the Pretty Cure has a mermaid, Laura, on their side. She meets Laura, who is captured by her servants, and quickly realizes that Laura wants to become a human. Like the witch in The Little Mermaid, she offers Laura to turn her into a human in exchange for her help.
Laura doesn't give in to the Witch demands and manages to escape, eventually becoming a Pretty Cure. This makes the Witch of Delays very agitated and frustrated, who abandons her normal lethargy and indifference and becomes more invested in capturing Laura once again. When Butler steals Motivation Power from Aozora City, he reveals that the Witch used to be called the Witch of Destruction. With the Casket now full of Motivation Power, he hands a plate of the power to the Witch of Delays. When Chongire tells him that Summer is in the castle, Butler hears the Witch rumbling and orders Chongire to keep Summer out at all cost, before telling the Witch that she doesn't need to remember anything as the Casket is full.
When the Cures confront the Witch of Delays, they ask why she wants a world without motivation, and she realizes that she doesn't remember, but Butler manipulates her to continue the plan. After much suffering, the Witch remembers that she wants to finish the battle with Cure Oasis from 100 years ago and fights the Cures, now that she has motivation to fight. However, they remind her of how much Oasis cared for her, and Summer states that what she really delays is her friendship with Oasis. Just then Oasis appears before the Witch, thus the latter's kindness is reached and she starts to cry. The Witch then takes Oasis' hand and the two vanish into bubbles.
