The Wolf is a minor antagonist in the 2022 action comedy film Bullet Train, based on Kōtarō Isaka's 2010 dark comedic thriller novel Maria Beetle.

He was a Mexican gangster whose wife was killed at their wedding by an assassin named the Hornet, of whom he has a picture in an envelope so he knows exactly who she is. The Wolf infiltrated the bullet train to kill the Hornet, but accidently runs into the assassin Ladybug, who was also at the wedding, and mistakes him for the Hornet.

He was portrayed by the rapper/singer Bad Bunny (credited as Benito A. Martinez Ocasio) in his first villanous role. As a child, he was portrayed by Ian Martinez.

History[]

The Wolf became a part of a Mexican drug cartel ran by El Saguano. Eventually, he found true love and decided to marry, but El Saguano is targeted by an assassin and the entire wedding party is poisoned, including his wife. Wolf was the only survivor, as an undercover Ladybug accidently spilled wine on his suit and he decided to wash it off instead of eating the poisoned cake. After that, he decided to kill the Hornet and avenge his wife's death.

When he entered the bullet train, he recognized Ladybug from his wedding and believes Ladybug is the Hornet. A fight between the two broke out, but quickly ended when Wolf threw his knife at Ladybug, who deflects it with an aluminium briefcase, causing it to fatally strike Wolf in the chest. Ladybug then proceeds to disguise the Wolf's corpse to make it look he is just a drunk guest, remaining in that way for the rest of the film. His corpse was presumably damaged when the bullet train gets destroyed at the end of the film.

Trivia[]

  • Despite his prominence in most of the marketing for Bullet Train, the Wolf ultimately had little screentime in the film. Thus, many viewers have presumed that he was just heavily advertised due to Bad Bunny's musician fame.
    • Interestingly, Bad Bunny impressed the Sony Pictures executives with his performance as the Wolf to the point of interesting them in having him star in another of their high-profile films, leading to early 2022 meetings that led Bad Bunny to ask Sony to cast him as El Muerto in his upcoming eponymous film set in Sony's Spider-Man Universe.
  • Despite never meeting her, the Wolf did play a role in the Hornet's death, as his involvement caused Ladybug to investigate her, leading to the Hornet unsuccessfully trying to kill him and winding up dying instead. Thus, in a way, the Wolf did get to avenge his wife even if he didn't live to see it.
