Woo-Jung Paik is an antagonist on the 2004 show Lost. He is Sun's father and is a corrupt business executive, whose actions put serious strain on Sun and Jin's marriage.
He was played by Byron Chung.
History[]
He is the CEO of Paik Heavy Industries, and is shown to be an associate of Charles Widmore. He has a number of enforcers working for him who he sends to threaten and possibly kill anyone who does not do what he tells them.
When Sun was a child Paik found she had broken a vase, but she claimed the maid did it. Paik seemed to disbelieve this and stated if the maid did it he would have to fire her, but Sun persisted in her story, and Paik presumably fired the maid.
When Sun grew older and wanted to marry Jin, Paik seemed to disapprove as Jin was a poor fisherman, but consented to the marriage if Jin would work for him in exchange. Jin agreed, and Paik later took advantage when Sun had to ask him for money to pay off Jin's mother, who threatened to ruin his reputation. Paik said that since the money was for Jin he would have to work directly under him as his personal enforcer. He told Jin he was promoting him and sent him to "deliver a message" to an environmental secretary who had closed a factory, but Jin misunderstood the assignment and only told the man that Paik was displeased. Paik then sent Jin back along with a hitman, and to save the secretary from being killed Jin beat him up in front of his family. As a result of being made to do Paik's dirty work, Jin and Sun's marriage became strained.
Paik later found Sun was having an affair with Jae Lee and was furious. He met with Jin and ordered him to kill Jae Lee, who he claimed had been "stealing" from him, but did not tell Jin his wife was cheating on him. Jin reluctantly attacked Jae Lee but was unable to kill him, instead ordering him to leave the country, but Jae Lee thought Jin knew about the affair and committed suicide. Paik later crashed his funeral and gloated to Sun that "he must have felt great shame" and told her to go home to her husband. He later gave Jin an assignment to deliver a Rolex watch to an associate in Los Angeles, which put Jin and Sun on the plane that crashed on the island.
After Sun was rescued, Paik seemingly reverted to his cold treatment of her, but Sun then told him off and revealed she had bought a controlling interest in his company, blaming him for Jin's supposed death and telling him now he would respect her.
