That's okay. We're just an all-powerful secret society that you shouldn't know about!
~ William Worm to Charlie Dompler

The Worm Society are the overarching antagonists of the Smiling Friends episode, Mr. President.

They are a shadowy cabal of worms who secretly work behind the scenes of the government and are conspirating to rig the election in order to put Mr. Frog in power.

William Worm is voiced by Harry Partridge and Wendy Worm is voiced by Monica Franco.

History[]

The Worm Society is led by William and Wendy Worm, who are the newscasters of Worm News Worldwide. They appear in the start of the episode, reporting the election, saying that Squiggly Miggly is close to overtaking the current elected president, Jimble.

Later, when Charlie is searching for an exit in the White House, he stumbles upon the Worm Society's secret lair, who then reveal to him that they are secretly rigging the election to get Mr. Frog elected and then threaten to cover Charlie in dirt and eat him now that he knows their plan. Charlie then says that he's actually on their side and also supports Mr. Frog's candidature since he found Jimble to be "a bonehead". Relieved, Wendy Worm invites Charlie to join them, but he refuses, saying that he can't betray his friend Pim (who's helping Jimble get re-elected), but that he's still a big fan of Mr. Frog and his show and that he loves when he eats the bug. After Charlie mentions that he eats bugs, the worms then begin panicking and ultimately decide to change their plans, now rigging the election in favor of Jimble instead. Charlie tries to stop them, but they activate a trap door and expel him from the building.

In the day of the debate, William and Wendy are once again presenting the newscast. They begin by stating that the former candidate, Squiggly Miggly, was no longer running due to having commited suicide with a 3D printed shotgun. During the debate, the two start very clearly favoring Jimble with the time, which he uses to give a touching speech to his voters.

At the end of the episode, William and Wendy report on Mr. Frog's victory in the election, caused by Glep's vote. They then proceed to dox Glep by broadcasting all his personal information.

Trivia[]

  • Squiggly Miggly's death being reported by the worms a "suicide" heavily implies that they might have assassinated him. This is also a reference to real-life conspiracies regarding assassinations of public political figures being framed as suicide, a popular example being that surrounding the death of Jeffrey Epstein.
  • The fact the gun was 3D printed further implies it, as it would mean the weapon cannot be traced to anywhere.
    • Squiggly Miggly's assassination by 3D-printed shotgun could be a reference to the real-life assassination of Japanese ex-Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who was assassinated by a man wielding a similarly homemade shotgun.
