Wyatt Langmore is a major character in the Netflix series Ozark.

He is the cousin of Ruth Langmore, the son of Russ Langmore, and best friend of Charlotte Byrde. He constantly endures tragedy and loss, leading him down a self-destructive path. Despite his heavily sympathetic nature, he briefly serves as an accomplice to his uncle Cade, and ultimately serves as the right hand man of his lover (later wife) Darlene Snell.

He was portrayed by Charlie Tahan, who also played Jonathan Crane in Gotham.

Personality

Wyatt is a smart, laid back, and eloquent young man. Despite having so much potential, he believes his family is cursed, and this compels him to reject going to a good college.

His biggest flaw is his passive nature, leading him to being easily manipulated by more aggressive people like Cade and Darlene. However, he is also shown to have a bolder, more heroic side too, like when he stands up for Jonah Byrde and protects him, which winds up getting him expelled from High School.

Biography

Wyatt is introduced via his close bond with Ruth and budding friendship with Charlotte Byrde. Over a short span of time he loses his father and both of his uncles, then learns his beloved cousin Ruth orchestrated her father's death. Afterward he runs away from home, and begins squatting in the vacant summer homes of wealthy residents of the Ozarks.

After Wyatt is caught squatting, he is arrested and sent to prison. Ruth tries to bail him out, but Wyatt refuses her money. Darlene Snell overhears a conversation between Ruth and Sheriff Nix about Wyatt's circumstances, and offers to bail Wyatt out herself, both to spite the Byrdes and out of genuine respect for his principles.

Wyatt begins to work for Darlene out of gratitude, and the two get along well despite her abrasive nature. Eventually a mutual attraction forms between them, and they enter into a relationship. This leads Darlene to take an interest in his cousin Ruth, and helps Wyatt mend his relationship with her, while even forging an alliance with her. While Darlene's partnership with Ruth has its ups and downs, Wyatt remains loyal to Darlene the entire time, and even helps her hide a body, even though he is upset and disgusted the entire time.

Eventually Wyatt is given a choice between running away with Ruth and escaping the Ozarks, or staying with Darlene. He ultimately chooses to marry Darlene to help her keep custody of her adoptive son Zeke. This choice ultimately leads to his death, as he is gunned down by Javier Elizonndro during his assassination of Darlene. Wyatt is later avenged by both Ruth (who kills Javi herself) and Charlotte (who tells Ruth Javi's whereabouts).

Trivia

• Wyatt is the least villainous character who qualifies as a villain in Ozark, as he is extremely tragic, and is a reluctant accomplice at his very worst.
