“ | Even now, you refuse to understand. There are as many truths to the Force as there are hearts within which the Force manifests itself. The existence of the triad has no more bearing on the reality of the Force than the Ashla and the Bogan, or anything I tell you, or anything you tell others. Any philosophy, creed or religion that opens the heart to the Force proves itself to be true. My legions follow the dictates of such a creed. But that is only a demonstration of the application of power, Arden. It says nothing about the rightness of our beliefs, or the universality of our faith. | „ |
~ Xendor |
Xendor is the overarching antagonist of the Star Wars Legends continuity.
Xendor was originally a member of the jedi order thousands of years before the events of the films, he was a notorious member who perceived that the true strength of the Force resided in anger, hatred and aggresion. This conflictive dissident eventually managed to turn many of the order members to his cause, creating the Legions of Lettow and launching a series of devastating conflicts with the rest of the order that would result in the creation of the dark jedi and the entire sith order.
While Xendor was killed before he could witness the effect his actions would achieve in the galaxy, it's undeniable that, for good or ill, his impact on Galactic History, was unmeasurable.
Biography[]
Past[]
Born a Force-sensitive human Xendor of the Kashi Mer Dynasty, one of the first culture to gain knowledge and control of the force, Xendor was exiled due to his practicioning of Bogan, one of the early names for the dark side, Xendor took refuge with the Jedi Order on their fortress world of Ossus, eventually becoming a well respected Jedi Knight.
The Dark Side[]
As time went on Xendor once again started to practice the darker aspects of the force, bringing him into conflict with the order's council on multiple occasions. Xendor believed that the order's members should be allowed to study whatever aspects they desired, instead of following what he considered a "close-minded regime" at one point even suggesting to create a completely new Academy, far from Ossus, where the dark aspects of the force may be explored.
When the Council refused profusely Xendor quietly broke away from them, travelled to the world of Lettow and found his own academy instead, he used this oportunity to suede members to his cause forming the legions of Lettow, creating a dangerous message, implying that the members would sooner or later have to fight and die to protect themselves from the Jedi Council'wrath.
Taking the rank of general sometime in the 24,500s BBY, Xendor lead the Legions of Lettow in open warfare against the Jedi Order. Starting the conflict known to history as the First Great Schism, Xendor took the war directly to Ossus in a pre-emptive strike against the Jedi. This conflict spanned many systems through out the galaxy and years to resolve, at one point Xendor tried to rally the Galactic Republic against the Jedi Order, accusing them of trying to take over the galaxy, the Republic didn't fall for this deceit and branded him a dangerous warlord. Xendor's movement eventually ended in failure as the legions of dark jedi were defeated on Columus by the rest of the knights. Xendor himself was finally killed by Grand Master Awdrysta Pina at the end of the battle. With most of the legions either captured or killed the Jedi order declared an end to the conflict.
Legacy[]
Despite Xendor's death, the conflicts he sparked between the jedi would not cease, as many other members and force sensitives would adopt the same or similar philosophies, perpetuating the battle between the light and dark sides of the force.
Following the Second Great Schism and The Hundred-Year Darkness, all of the surviving dark jedi that emerged from Xendor's ideologies were captured by the Jedi Order, The Jedi decided to spare the dark ones from the death penalty since most of them had been good jedi once.
The Galactic History would prove this to possibly be the biggest error in the order's entire history, as the dark jedi drifted into space, eventually arriving in and slaving the populace of the planet Korriban, the Sith, taking the dark jedi as divine beings sended to the planet to rule it, the dark jedi teached their knowledge of the dark side to the then primitive species, and by inter-crossing the term sith eventually became just a way to describe any entity that used the dark side of the force, ensuing that the galaxy would be in chaos for eons to come.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic[]
Records of Xendor actions where still archived thousands of years after his death.
Personality[]
Despite his violent beliefs, Xendor seemed to actually be quite an honorable man, as his intent was never to actually start a war, but he felt it was inevitable that the Jedi Council would eventually try to stop him, he was a capable leader who inspired confidence in his followers, allowing them to continue his ideologies even thousands of years after his death.
Xendor deeply believed that each person should be allowed to study the force completely freely, Xendor it's one of the few beings in the galaxy to have actually met The Ones in person, when recounting his experience to his lover, Arden Lyn, he expressed that the force itself had many truths, and that the existence of the triad had no bearing on the truth of the Force, any more than the views of the Legions or the Jedi did.
