I order you to search the corner of the universe, until you find this key. Find me, the codex. And when I escape, and annihilate every living planet and destroy my symbiote offspring, I will reward you.... with your lives.
~ Knull to the Xenophages.

The Xenophages, also known as Symbiote Hunters, are the main antagonists of the 2024 superhero film Venom: The Last Dance, the third and final installment in the Venom trilogy. They are savage, feral monsters who serve as Knull’s loyal hunters who travel to Earth to hunt down Venom with it being revealed the Xenophages are the Symbiotes' sisters.

Personality[]

Xenophages are wild, aggressive and savage monsters, yet are also highly disciplined, as they don't arbitrarily attack every life-form they come across, only killing them should they provoke or attack them. They are also mindlessly obedient to Knull, never deferring from his commands, and ensuring that he is informed should the target be found.

Biography[]

Going to Earth[]

The Xenophages were first seen crawling around Knull. In pain and weakened from remaining in his prison, he explains how his Symbiotes betrayed him, thus ordering his Xenophages to track down and find the prison's key, the Codex, now that he has sensed it's existence within Venom. With their only reward being their lives, the Xenophages leave through several portals to search the universe.

One Xenophage arrives on Earth in Mexico just as Venom and Eddie Brock return to their universe after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Sensing the Codex, she lands outside the building where Eddie and Venom freed several abused dogs. However, as Xenophages can only sense the Codex when a symbiote is in it's full form, she quickly lost track after Venom changed back.

Later, while Venom and Eddie were hanging outside of a plane to New York, the Xenophage sensed the Codex when Venom manifested. Leaping a great height from Mexico, she landed on the plane and ambushed the duo. However, before being able to devour them, the Xenophage fell off the plane and into the jet engine, grounding her up into several pieces. Despite this, after landing in Nevada, she quickly regenerated, reattaching her body parts and continuing her hunt.

Forest Ambush[]

After Eddie and Venom were ambushed in the forests of Nevada by Rex Strickland's soldiers, Venom was forced to manifest to protect Eddie from a waterfall, signaling the Xenophage to the area. Upon arrival, she dove into the basin and attacked both Venom and the soldiers. Eddie quickly signaled for Venom to withdraw, causing the Xenophage to lose her focus. The soldiers began firing on the Xenophage to very little effect. As Eddie and Venom retreated, the Xenophage devoured the soldiers before climbing back up the waterfall cliff.

Las Vegas Attack[]

Due to a careless reverie, Venom manifested to dance with Mrs. Chen in her Las Vegas Penthouse, drawing the Xenophage to their location. The Xenophage crashed into the penthouse ceiling, but lost her focus again when Venom quickly withdrew and thus left to search outside. Strickland's military unit however then arrived to apprehend Eddie and Venom. Seemingly thinking the group of humans could lead her to Venom, she pursued them to Area 51.

Final Showdown at Area 51[]

Beneath Area 51 in the secret Area 55, Venom had to materialize to save Eddie from Rex Strickland, signaling the Xenophage to tunnel into the corridor to reach them. Officer Mulligan's Toxin Symbiote broke out of his cell and held back the creature to allow Venom to retreat and rally Area 55's other captured Symbiotes, though at the cost them and the former detective's lives. Most of the Symbiotes were unleashed due to Venom's order, and acquired hosts to battle the Xenophage. Two Symbiotes merged, temporarily holding the Xenophage back with their tendrils to allow the others to attack her and plan their escape.

Venom and the Symbiotes all merged to burst up to the surface. As the Symbiotes continued to fight the Xenophage, they would each get devoured. Using a rocket launcher, Strickland blew up the Xenophage, only for her to quickly reattach her pieces and regenerate. Doctor Teddy Paine then hit her with a truck, yet to very little effect. After regenerating once more, the Xenophage let out a signal to alert Knull that she had found the Codex, allowing Knull to send reinforcement Xenophages to outnumber the Symbiotes.

In an attempt to group them all together, Eddie got on a motorcycle and had Venom manifest to send out the tracking signal. Two Xenophages chase after them, but are tricked into jumping onto a pile of explosives. After Venom withdrew, the two lost the signal and remained on the pile, confused, as Eddie retreats. Strickland's soldiers fire on the pile from a chopper, engulfing the two in a giant explosion. Even so, the Xenophages survive, and one leaps at the chopper, causing it to crash land. Eddie and Venom arrive at the crash, and using the chopper blades, successfully decapitate the Xenophage. As the two rode away, they were ambushed by the second Xenophage. As she prepared to devour them, her head was blown off her neck with a rocket launcher by Eddie's friend, Martin Moon.

At that moment, 3 more Xenophages arrive. Resorting to a sacrifice, Venom manifested to attract the Xenophages before expanding to trap all five of them. Merging with all of them, he dragged them to Area 51's highly corrosive acid tanks used to dispose of biohazards. Having the mortally wounded Strickland continuously activate the acid with his security pass, Venom then broke the pipes with his tendrils to fully douse himself and the Xenophages in the acid. Strickland then detonated an explosive that burst the tanks and engulfed the entire base in an explosion, completely incinerating the Xenophages and avenging the deaths of Mulligan, Toxin, the other symbiotes and all the innocent people the Xenophages have killed.

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Extreme Regeneration: No matter how badly their bodies are broken or even shredded into pieces, they can reassemble back to prime health and strength. It takes utter cellular collapse and incineration to kill them.
  • Extreme Endurance
  • Extreme Pain Tolerance: Xenophages can be entirely exploded into pieces, but upon healing, are not remotely weakened by the damage.
  • Shredder Maw: There are rows of fangs within their mouths, but also their throats, which act as a natural shredder that can reduce humans to red mist and can mangle Symbiotes to the point of killing them.
  • Super Strength
  • Limited Super Speed
  • Super Jumps: They can jump from the ground to higher than 30,000 ft. in the sky.
  • Hypersonic Scream: They can emit a powerful sonic shriek that completely weaken Symbiotes and detach them from their hosts.
    • Intergalactic Signal: The scream also functions as a way to alert Knull about the Codex, even trapped in Klyntar.
  • Heightened Senses
    • Codex Detection: Regardless of the distance from the Codex, should it manifest, they will be able to instantly determine its exact location. However, they can only detect the Codex if a Symbiote is in their full form.

Trivia[]

  • While the Symbiotes typically have no pronouns, the Xenophages are all identified as female.
    • Although, technically, Symbiotes are genderless and change sex/gender characteristics based on the host. Though this may not be true for the Xenophages since they do not bond to a host.
  • In the comic, the 616 version of Xenophages belong from an unnamed planet. However, the Earth-688B's version of Xenophages appeared to be Knull's loyal hunters.
  • They are the first and only main antagonists in the Venom trilogy to not be Symbiotes unlike Riot and Carnage, as well as the only ones to not speak.
