Xerx Lugner is a minor antagonist in Black Clover, serving as a minor antagonist in Royal Knight Arc and Reincarnation Arc (whilst under elven possession in the latter's case).
He is the corrupt and cold-hearted vice-captain of Purple Orca squad, who was attacked by Zora because of his heartless action before the latter stole his identity.
He is voiced by Wataru Tsuyuzaki in Japanese and Gregory Lush in English.
Personality[]
Deep down his saintly front, Xerx is a corrupt, cold-hearted and ruthless individual, as shown when he refuses to release the granddaughter of an old lady and instead offers to end the woman's suffering by killing her.
Biography[]
Royal Knights Arc[]
Xerx's past is mainly shrouded in mystery. Before the Royal Knights Selection Exam started, Xerx was stationed along the Clover Kingdom's border. When he and his subordinate return for the Exam, they were approached by an elderly woman looking for her granddaughter, but Xerx refused to release her granddaughter and offered to kill the woman instead, saying it would end her suffering.
Before he could do so, Xerx and his minions were confronted by Zora Ideale, who was disgusted by his actions as well as seeing Xerx's corrupt nature. Zora provoked Xerx into attacking him with Ice Magic, but Xerx was ended up defeated by Zora. Mocking Xerx that he never lived up to his title as a vice-captain, Zora stole Xerx's squad robe and took his identity. After the exam, the real Xerx was found still lying unconscious in the city.
Reincarnation Arc[]
Days later, during the elves' invasion, Xerx was amongst the aristocratic Magic Knights that were taken over by elves. Alongside two other possessed Knights, Protobe Collina (from Coral Peacock) and Risacca Ondell (from Blue Rose), the elven-possessed Xerx attacked Hecairo and defeats the Magic Knights and citizens there. However, they were confronted by the Black Bull members (except Gauche, Yami and Finral).
The elves tried to stop them but Rouge prevents the attacks from hitting. The base then fired off three cannons, with Magna Swing's Maximum Exploding Fireball hitting Xerx. Combining their magic, the elves planned to destroy the town, but Asta was fired from one of the cannons in time and pinned Xerx to the wall with his Demon-Destroyer Sword.
After Asta exorcised the elves, Xerx and the two Magic Knights were left lying unconscious on the ground. However it's unknown what happened to Xerx afterwards, but it's possibly that he was removed from the Purple Orca Squad and arrested for his crimes.
Trivia[]
- Xerx is the only two vice-captains that are shown to be villainous, alongside Langris Vaude, due to his corrupt nature and murder attempt.
- Lügner is German for "liar".
