Yao Ling is the main antagonist from the 2003 action film Cradle 2 the Grave. He's a weapon dealer, who wants to sell the stones that contain Plutonium. He was portrayed by Mark Dacascos, who also played Giyera in Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Wo Fat in Hawaii Five-0, Zero from (John Wick), Eric Hauck in Code Name: The Cleaner and King Cobra in The Lost Medallion: The Adventures of Billy Stone.
Biography[]
Ling is a gang leader and arms dealer. His assistants report to him that a local thief named Anthony Feit and his friends have stolen precious stones, including some black diamonds (as it later turns out, these stones contain plutonium). Ling wants to get these stones, but Anthony does not agree to give them to him (since it turns out that he does not have them). Therefore, Ling kidnaps Anthony's daughter, an eight-year-old girl named Vanessa. To find them, Anthony goes to the local crime boss Chambers, but he refuses to explain where they are. However, Chambers decides to bargain with Ling so that he will tell him the appropriate amount of money. However, Ling instead kills his guard, after which he tortures Chambers and finds out that the stones are in his nightclub. After this, Ling kills Chambers and goes to a nightclub, where he kills the club's manager, Odion, and all his assistants, and steals the stones. Then he arranges an auction where he plans to sell these stones to terrorists. However, Vanessa tells her father where she is, after which Anthony finds her. Anthony and his friends clash with Ling's henchmen, and Ling himself is overtaken by a Taiwanese intelligence officer named Su. Su confronts Ling and kills him, after which he takes the stones.
Personality[]
Ling is a very violent criminal. Su mentions that Ling had already tried to kill him earlier and killed all of his comrades. He also wants to sell stones containing plutonium to terrorists as expensively as possible, knowing full well how exactly they will use them. He does not hesitate to kidnap an eight-year-old child, so that later he will have something to blackmail Anthony with. It is also made clear that Ling could have found these stones himself (without Anthony's help). When he does this, Anthony concludes that Ling no longer needs Vanessa, which means he will probably kill her. This once again shows that Ling is not an honest person at all.

- Ling and his gang can be considered a foil to Anthony and his gang in different ways.
- Anthony and his gang members care about each other and treat each other as good friends. Ling's and his gang members' attitude towards each other is implied to be pragmatic as they never truly care about each other.
- Anthony and his gang members show hospitable attitude towards Su, despite Su is a cop. Ling and his gang members constantly try to kill Su. Sona (one of Ling's minions) even asks Su "How much we have to kill you?".
- While Anthony and his gang members stole the black diamonds and wanted to sell it, they wanted to sell it as jewels and Su wanted to sell them as nuclear armor (which would have made him responsible for all the damage that this armor would have caused).
- Anthony loves his daugter Vanessa and never lets anyone to abuse her. While Ling's family is never mentioned in the film, he kidnapps Vanessa just to have a something to blackmail Anthony with and later he himself does what he demanded of Anthony (which proves that, in principle, there was no point in kidnapping Vanessa in the first place). Also, his minions tie Vanessa up just so that she doesn’t bother them and doesn’t yell. Although Ling himself did not do this, the gang was his, so he is one way or another responsible for the actions of his gang.
- Although Anthony is an obvious criminal, he never crosses the line of what is permitted. He only robs people and does not kill them unnecessarily. Ling clearly doesn’t care who he kills. In particular, he kills the crime boss Chambers when he has already told where the stones are kept, when there was no longer any point in killing Chambers.
- Also, while Anthony did steal the diamonds to sell them, he only wanted to sell them as valuable stones, while Ling tried to sell them as armor.
