Yelgrun is the main antagonist of the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "The Magnificent Ferengi".
He was portrayed by Iggy Pop, who also played Curve in The Crow: City of Angels and voiced the Demon in Rock & Rule (where he also provided Mok Swagger's singing voice) and Darkos in Arthur 3: The War of the Two Worlds.
Biography[]
Yelgrun was a Vorta who was charged with organising a prisoner exchange. Quark's mother Ishka had been captured by the Dominion and Quark had offered to trade her for Keevan, a Vorta previously captured by Starfleet who the Dominion wanted returned to be interrogated and executed for his desertion. Yelgrun brought a large group of Jem'Hadar with him to Empok Nor, along with Ishka, arriving to find Quark and a number of other Ferengi holed up in the infirmary. Quark, Rom and Nog emerged to negotiate with Yelgrun with Quark insisting that all but two of the Jem'Hadar were to leave the station and head back to Dominion space, returning to pick up Yelgrun and his aides after the exchange had taken place. Yelgrun pointed out he could just have the Jem'Hadar storm the infirmary and kill them all, but Quark pointed out that would lead to Keevan being killed without them finding out what secrets he had told the Federation.
Yelgrun carried out his part of the terms but Quark added another condition: The exchange was to take place by the airlock where his ship was located. Yelgrun was unaware that Keevan had accidentally been killed and Quark was stalling for time as Nog fitted Keevan's corpse with remote control devices. As they waited for the exchange, Ishka gave Yelgrun investment advice, for which he expressed gratitude but noted he'd have to kill her if Quark didn't appear soon. Quark and Nog appeared with the remote-controlled Keevan, which fooled Yelgrun long enough for him to release Ishka. Rom and Leck then ambushed and killed the two Jem'Hadar, with the Ferengi taking Yelgrun off the station with him as a prison, intending to hand him over to Starfleet as a replacement for Keevan.
