Yenk is a minor antagonist in the first campaign of the Dungeons & Dragons webseries Critical Role and the third season of it's animated adaptation The Legend of Vox Machina.
He is a goristro demon from the Abyss that found himself in between the crosshairs of Vox Machina and the white dragon Vorugal.
He was voiced by Matthew Mercer, who also voiced Umbrasyl, Craven Edge, Orthax, and Sylas Briarwood in the same series.
Biography[]
Critical Role[]
During their fight against Vorugal, Scanlan used a spell to summon Yenk to draw out Vorugal and to give the party an advantage in their fight against him. Scanlan used a dominate monster spell on Yenk to make sure he kept his focus on fighting the dragon. This only worked temporarily, as the demon managed to overcome the spell and while still fighting Vorugal, he attacked the party as well. This meant Vox Machina now had two hulking behemoths to fight. So they did so until Grog ended it by forcing the demon down and tearing him in half.
The Legend of Vox Machina[]
In the cartoon adaptation, Yenk served as a body guard to Zerxus Ilerez. When Vox Machina entered hell on the search of the Plate of the Dawnmartyr, they were chased by a hoard of demons while on the way to Zerxus' temple. Yenk showed up to slay/drive away the other demons and allowed the party into the temple to show them to Zerxus.
After a hellish game of cards between Pike & Zerxus, the latter told Yenk to escort the party out of his temple. With that, Vox Machina left with the Plate of the Dawnmartyr. Zerxus ordered Yenk to kill the party save for Pike. So Yenk expanded to near dragon size and ran after them all the way up to the point to the spot where they entered hell in the first place. Thankfully, Keyleth, with Allura's help, managed to open a rift back to the Material Plane. Unfortunately for the party, Yenk managed to force himself through just before the rift could close. In the event of a mixed blessing, Vorugal had found Vox Machina as well as Vorugal. In light of this, the demon and the dragon decided to fight each other first. Vox Machina watched from afar and waited to see who would win.
While Yenk managed to land a few hits, Vorugal gained the upper hand by biting off the demon's arm. Later on, Vorugal bit into one of the demon's wounds and unleased his ice breath into it, which shredded Yenk's insides. Vorugal declared his victory over the demon by smashing his head into oblivion.
Trivia[]
- In the campaign, Yenk had swallowed a vestige, which was the Spire of Conflux. In the animated version however, Yenk was complicit in guarding the Plate of the Dawnmartyr instead.
