“ | You performed a valuable service to Selûne this night. Free of my earthly desires, I can better contemplate the mysteries of paradise, and as they are revealed to me, the road to redemption will be better shown to you and your failing father. | „ |
~ Yinochek after raping Shanali. |
Yozumian Dudui Yinochek is an overarching antagonist of R.A Salvatore's The Legend of Drizzt and a major antagonist of its spin-off Sellswords, serving as the main antagonist of Road to the Patriarch. He was the high priest of the Protector's House, a sect of priests worshiping the goddess Selûne in the city of Memnon. Because his hedonism, Yinochek twisted Selunian's religion by claiming that every person who died went to hell, and the only way to save your loved ones from torment temporarily was giving money or services to the priests. By doing this, Yinochek and his priests forced the lower class of Memnon into perpetual poverty. Yinochek personally took advantage of and raped several young women, and in doing so, became the biological father of famous assassin Artemis Entreri.
Appearance[]
Yinochek was an older man who wore many layered red, gold, and white robes.
Personality[]
“ | Do you know how many lives you've ruined? Yes, you know. You understand it all. You know the wretchedness of your actions as you steal the coin of the peasants and the innocence of the girls. You know, and so you are afraid. Selûne is a goodly god, so I've heard, and thus will have nothing to do with the likes of you. I call you a fraud, and there is nowhere left for you to hide. | „ |
~ Entreri to Yinochek. |
Yinochek was a self-righteous, hedonistic and sociopathic narcissist. Because of devotion to his goddess, he believed himself to be more morally righteous than any other person, and acted condescending to everyone he met, since in his eyes, they were all greedy and unholy insects not worth his time. Yinochek was also known to hypocritically mock the poor for valuing any of what little they had, while he indulged in all kinds of hedonism. He felt no remorse for raping women, since he didn't consider them anything but objects that existed solely for his pleasure. It is implied that deep down, he knew what a monster he was; he simply didn't care.
Biography[]
At some point, Yinochek began worshiping Selûne and took over the Protector's House, where he twisted their religion by having the people of Memnon believe that the only way to save their dead loved ones from Hell, even temporarily, was by giving money or services to the priests. As a results, Yinochek and the Protector's House got incredibly rich, indulging in all forms of hedonism, while the commoners of the city got incredibly poor.
On one occasion, Yinochek brutally raped and impregnated a young woman named Shanali, before throwing her onto the street with nothing to her name. Although he immediately forgot about the incident, since it was very common for him, Shanali would give birth to a child named Artemis nine months later.
About three decades later, Artemis returned to Memnon and attacked the Protector's House looking for vengeance for his mother, along with crafty dark elf Jarlaxle and a dangerous dwarf named Athrogate. Although Yinochek used all of his resources to avoid the confrontation, Artemis and his friend eventually found and killed him.
Trivia[]
- Although Artemis Entreri is widely considered the archnemesis of Drizzt Do'Urden, Entreri considered Yinochek to be his most hated enemy.
- Yinochek's character created by R.A Salvatore in response to the growing amount of catholic priest sexual abuse scandals.
