Ymir is one of the four overarching antagonists (alongside the other Yggdrasil), of the manga/anime series Record of Ragnarok.

Ymir is one of the original 88 Primordial Gods, as well as a member of the Yggdrasil, the four strongest Primordial Gods of all, who attempted to exterminate the Gods, but were met with resistance from many Primordial Gods. Reviving Ymir and the other three Yggdrasil is the ultimate goal of Odin.

Appearance[]

Ymir is a massive being, both in height and build. In addition to a large anatomical width of bones, Ymir is also insanely muscular, with particularly developed trapezius and neck muscles. Ymir has a rather broad chest, and his lower legs are longer than his upper legs. His disproportionately long shins sit on high calves. Ymir has a somewhat elongated and defined face. His hair is spiky and points straight back. He doesn't wear much, just a loincloth around his hips that extends along the sharp edges, and spiked straps on his calf muscles. Around his neck he wears the Brisigamen, an elaborate necklace designed to match his imposing size, composed of star-shaped elements, connected to each other by small metallic spheres that float above him.

Personality[]

Ymir is a cold and ruthless God, who chose to slaughter the other Gods he deemed superfluous since they had multiplied beyond the original 88 Primordial Gods, and to carry out his plan he did not hesitate to fight the Primordial Gods who opposed him and the other Yggdrasil. Ymir is intuitive and intelligent enough to quickly understand the enemy's intentions.

Biography[]

Ymir is a Primordial God, as well as a member of Yggdrasil, the four most powerful Primordial Gods that include Ymir, Odin, Satan and Chaos, and one of the original 88 Primordial Gods born from the "chaos of the beginning" and who spawned the other Gods. However, one day the Yggdrasil determine that the Gods have become superfluous and decide to exterminate them: 7 Primordial Gods side with them, while the other 77 oppose the decision, and this triggers a war between Primordial Gods, the original Ragnarok.

However, the Yggdrasil prove to be too powerful and manage to defeat the rebel Primordial Gods without any problems, which pushes the rebel Primordial Gods, including Izanagi, to use a seal called Gleipnir - Weave of Sealed Gods, with which they trap the Yggdrasil and the other Primordial Gods who supported them for eternity. However, shortly before being sealed forever, Ymir and the other three Yggdrasil manage to spread their relics throughout the world, which for Ymir is equivalent to his necklace Brisigamen, so that thanks to them they can one day resurrect.

Some time later, the sword Gram, Primordial Odin’s relic, is found by a Nameless God who is curious about the legend of the Primordial Gods, and this allows Primordial Odin to take possession of the aforementioned God, transforming him into the King of the Norse Pantheon Odin. From that moment, Odin's ultimate goal becomes to bring the Primordial Gods back to life, and to do so he finds the other three relics of Yggdrasil and plans to sacrifice the Primordial Vessel, someone capable of holding the four relics within himself without dying, namely Siegfried, and the Water of Life, obtainable by exterminating Humanity. To this end, he imprisons Siegfried in Tartarus by forcing Michel Nostradamus to keep him alive, and convinces the Gods' Council to exterminate Humanity, although Brunhilde, aware of his plans, organizes the Ragnarok Tournament to stop him.

Powers and Abilities[]

Overall Abilities: As a Primordial God as well as a member of Yggdrasil, Ymir is one of the most powerful Gods in the entire Universe. He possesses physical abilities far superior to those of any ordinary Human. His body cannot be damaged by mortal weapons, however it can still be damaged by unarmed attacks from individuals with superhuman strength and Divine Weapons. For the same reason, Ymir is unable to die due to old age. Ymir and the other three Yggdrasil are so powerful that the 77 rebel Primordial Gods could not get the better of them and had to seal them away forever.

Power of Creation: As a Primordial God, Ymir has the power to create anything he wants, be it objects or other Deities. In fact, it was Ymir who created, together with the other Primordial Gods, the Gods.

Divine Strength: Ymir possessed incredible physical strength and was supposedly a master of hand-to-hand combat, able to easily kill and decapitate Primordial Gods with just a few punches.

Trivia[]

  • In Norse Mythology Ymir, also called Aurgelmir among the Giants themselves, was the first Frost Giant and a fundamental figure of Norse Cosmogony and Cosmology.
