Allow me to attend to his soul, my lord... For I do miss the taste of sweet, noble essence...
~ Yodogimi requesting Ode Iou permission to feast on the Prisoner's soul.
Yodogimi: Such suffering... Such pain... You've cleft my heart in twain... What did I ever do to deserve this? Why is it forbidden for a princess to love a shinobi?
The Prisoner: Don't be fooled! She's no princess! Lord Ode fathered no daughters!
Yodogimi: Hah... Ah hah hah hah hah... An astute observation from the man Lord Ode ranks so highly... Fools... I do not take rejection kindly... You'll be begging for forgiveness when I've finished with you!
~ Yodogimi trying to guilt-trip Oboromaru for "killing" her earlier while confronting him and the Prisoner, only for the Prisoner to reveal that she was never Ode Iou's daughter.
Oh no you don't! I'll not let you harm Lord Ode!
~ Yodogimi confronting Oboromaru and the Prisoner, if they never met and "killed" her prior to the confrontation.

Yodogimi is a major antagonist from the Twilight of Edo Japan chapter of Live A Live. She is one of the many supernatural beings who were summoned by Ode Iou to protect his castle as he prepares to overthrow the Tokugawa shogunate and plunge Japan in the new era of never-ending war.

She was voiced by Yuko Kaida in Japanese and Jennie Kwan in English.

Biography[]

Yodogimi, along with Amakusa Shiro and Puppetmaster Gennai, was one of the many supernatural beings with whom Ode Iou, a power-hungry rules of the Ode clan, formed a pact, her vengeful hatred for Tokugawa shogunate being the primary motivator for cooperation. They all were entrusted with keeping Ode Iou safe and ensure that his plan to kidnap Ryoma Sakamoto, prevent him from stopping the impending war, and become the new ruler of Japan would be a success. Once Ryoma was kidnapped and imprisoned, Yodogimi requested Ode Iou permission to feast on his soul once everything's done, which he granted.

Once Oboromaru was sent by the Enma clan to rescue the prisoner and put an end to Ode Iou's plans, Yodogimi disguised herself as Ode Iou's daughter and a princess in one room and pretended to be surrounded by four shinobi who threatened to kill her for seeing them. Should Oboromaru find and enter the room, and he'll get into the fight with the four ninjas, killing them. The disguised Yodogimi, after the "rescue", would then begin to praise Oboromaru and try to seduce him in an attempt to lower his guard and strike him down. Should Oboromaru refuse her advances, he'll "kill" Yodogimi's disguised self, but if Ryoma is present, he'll reveal her lies by stating that Ode Iou fathered no daughters, and that Yodogimi is nothing more but another ghost Ode Iou had summoned, leading to her unveiling the facade and fighting the group in her true ghostly form. This fight will be avoided on the pacifist route.

Eventually, once Oboromaru rescues Ryoma and they both defeat Miyamoto Musashi and go to confront Ode Iou, Yodogimi, provided she wasn't defeated in her true form during the previous encounter, appears to protect Ode. If Oboromaru "killed" her in the room her disguised form resided, she'll attempt to guilt-trip him over how he "unjustly murdered her" when she was just a princess in love with a shinobi, but Ryoma would call her out on her lies. Her facade uncovered, Yodogimi would then proceed to try and kill Oboromaru and the Prisoner. Regardless of how the scene plays out, Oboromaru and Ryoma fight and defeat Yodogimi, who spends her last words in the world of the living begging for Lord Ode to help her before fading away into dust.
