Yoshiuo Minamoto is a major antagonist in My Bride is a Mermaid. He is a handsome and wealthy aristocrat, who is referred as a "noble" in the dub and he had secretly caused the disappearance of several girls who were invited to parties he hosted. He was the employer of Akeno Shiranui where he gave her orders to break up Nagasumi Michishio and Sun Seto so he could have her for himself, though his reasons were based only on finding Sun physically attractive.
He was voiced by Daisuke Namikawa (who also voiced Rock in Black Lagoon, Hisoka Morow in Hunter x Hunter, Beelzebub in Record of Ragnarok and Dr. Genus in One-Punch Man) in Japanese and Chris Patton (who also voiced Ayato Sakamaki in Diabolik Lovers, Eiji Nochizawa in Sword Art Online, Tomoo in Elfen Lied, Turles in The Tree of Might, Lord Embryo from Cross Ange: Rondo of Angel and Dragon, Asura from Soul Eater and Greed from Fullmetal Alchemist) in English.
Biography[]
In Episode 25, Yoshiuo, in his first appearance, has been using Akeno Shiranui for his profits in this case to separate San and Nagasumi as he is interested in the only daughter of the Seto family. So he commands her to give an invitation to the Seto family to attend the undersea palace merfolk garden party, which according to Lunar, this means that he does it to attract San. Yoshiuo captures the whole family and is willing to marry San by force. However in the final episode, it is interrupted by Nagasumi who went to save her. San, who has been set free, gives strength to her boyfriend with the hero's song, but Yoshiuo shoots Nagasumi. Turns out the shot did not hit Nagasumi as he becomes a "powerful and strong man", and with this, Yoshiuo falls to defeat. As he is reverted to his true form, a catfish, he is humiliated by his followers and Akeno's swordsman teacher informs Yoshiuo that he has no choice to inform Kyoto of his action and his mischief went too far, which it is implied that Yoshiuo gets arrested.
Trivia[]
- Due to being the one responsible for trying to destroy Nagasumi and Sun's relationship, not only it was a mistake to kidnap someone, whose already engaged to another, it was not his place to interfere with the marriage agreement.
