For the further advancement of our Yotsuba group... for our company to become the largest business in the world... who shall we kill?
~ Takeshi Ooi starts the meeting.
At times like these, to work for the company is to work for society. Isn't that the true purpose of a Yotsuba employee?
~ Namikawa to Shimura and Mido about Yotsuba's role

The Yotsuba Group are the main antagonists of the Yotsuba arc of the anime and manga series Death Note. They are a corporation whose senior executives meet weekly to determine who Kira (who is actually Kyosuke Higuchi) will kill in order to advance the company.

History[]

After Misa Amane was arrested by L under suspicion of being the second Kira, Light Yagami devised a plan to free her and himself from suspicion. He allowed L to detain him for months, meanwhile, relinquishing his memories of the Death Note and telling Rem to bring it to a greedy but dumb person who would use it for their own ends. Rem eventually finds and gives the Death Note to Kyosuke Higuchi, the head of technology at the Yotsuba Group, who arranges a series of weekly meetings, always on Friday, between himself and seven other Yotsuba Group members so he can gain there input on who he should kill to advance the Yotsuba Group. The other seven men have no choice but to go along with it if they want to live. Higuchi also threatens the company president.

Higuchi continues the killings of criminals to maintain appearances, however, three of the businessmen he kills die of heart attacks instead of accidents due to the circumstances of those accidents being impossible which the Kira task force picks up on. Yotsuba pushes bribes in high places, causing official support for the Kira investigation to be cut while Masahiko Kida contacts detective Eraldo Coil to find out L's identity, unaware that Coil is actually L. Touta Matsuda, meanwhile, is caught eavesdropping on the eight men during one of their meetings but he claims to be Taro Matsui, manager to Misa Amane. Misa is invited to Yotsuba by "Matsui" who brings the men to her flat for a party with her friends. "Matsui" fakes his death before he can be killed.

This incident causes the Kira task force's attention to focus on Yotsuba. "Eraldo Coil" (actually Aiber) contacts Kida and offers to find L for $12 million. The eight meet to discuss this. Hatori wants to back out of the meetings but is reminded how deep he already is. Namikawa and Mido decide to pay Coil since he could be useful to them in the future. They also increase his rate. Unbeknownst to them, L and the task force have bugs placed in their meeting room. When they meet the next time, however, Hatori is missing, having been killed by Higuchi. During this meeting, Namikawa is contacted by Light posing as L who offers him immunity if he gets the killings to stop so Namikawa suggests they postpone the killings for a month to give Coil time to find L. "Coil" then contacts the Yotsuba Group, telling them that L suspected Misa of being the second Kira and suggesting they hire her which the men reluctantly agree on. They ask "Coil" to meet them in person and he agrees.

The next day, Misa Amane arrives at Yotsuba and is interviewed by four of the men alongside Aiber who is posing as a marketing advisor named John Wallace though the interview between "Wallace" and Misa was planned out in advance unbeknownst to the Yotsuba men. Misa ends up going to the bathroom where she encounters Rem who lets her know that Higuchi is the Yotsuba Kira. Misa meets with Higuchi and tells him she was the second Kira, getting him to admit to being the Yotsuba Kira on tape. To find out how Higuchi kills, L has Matsuda go on TV and claim he has evidence on who Kira is while installing cameras in Higuchi's car to find out how he kills. Namikawa, Mido and Shimura, meanwhile, hold a meeting where they decide to work against the Yotsuba Kira. Light gives Namikawa another call and has him tell Higuchi about their broadcast while ensuring the other men don't act. That night, Higuchi falls for L's trap and breaks into multiple buildings in search of information on "Matsui's" real identity. Eventually, he makes the deal for the Shinigami Eyes but L alerts the police of his new powers and has him arrested. During Higuchi's arrest, however, Light regains his memories and uses a Death Note piece in his watch to kill him.

After Higuchi's death, the remaining six Yotsuba men are allowed to continue their lives without being arrested but on April 20th, 2005, the six were all killed by Light Yagami using the Death Note. Kira's involvement in their deaths along with information about Higuchi is told by "L" to the police only though rumors of Kira's involvement caused Yotsuba stock to plummet.
