Youaltepuztli is a mysterious entity classified as a demon and / or avatar of Tezcatlipoca, who liked to scare the men who went out to castrate at night, and whose name means "ax at night"
It is said that this headless being, with its neck as if it were a trunk and its chest opened like a small door that closed and opened, roamed in the woods near Tenochtitlán making sounds similar to the felling of a tree.
Legend[]
Who listened to him came to him to ask for a favor: riches, courage and strength; to some, it offered them exactly what they had requested, but to others, it brought them poverty and misery. It is said that the more courageous and untamed spirit his visitor was, the more favors he received and the weaker he brought misfortunes.
Another way to obtain his favors was to tear out his heart and run with it until it was protected and wrapped. The next morning, if something of value was found in the wrapping, it was a symbol of wealth; however, if there was coal or a shabby and dirty mantle, it meant that misfortune would fall on the one who had stolen the heart.
