Youen Hanatsuyu, also known as Carrier, is a major antagonist of A Certain Magical Index: Genesis Testament, serving as one of the main antagonists of the Operation Handcuffs Arc and a supporting character in the Post-Handcuffs Arc.
The identical twin sister of Kaai Hanatsuyu, Youen is a Level 0 esper and a researcher from the dark side of Academy City who specializes in biological warfare.
Appearance[]
As the spitting image of her sister, Youen is a little girl who looks to be around the age of 10. However, she has a buxom figure with large breasts that don't fit her appearance. She has long black hair, which is tied in a ponytail with a red ribbon and has purple eyes. She wears a white yukata that resembles a labcoat with green splotches on it and has a gas mask on the left side of her head.
Personality[]
Similar to Kaai, Youen is a very deranged and vicious individual who has no objections to brutally killing a great number of people. However, she's more apathetic about killing, but still goes along with her sister. While she has proven to be just as cruel and unhinged as her sister, Youen is shown to be more rational and serious out of the two. She is opposed to the dissolution of the dark side and is willing to take extreme measures to make sure Operation Handcuffs fails.
Youen shows embarrassment about Kaai's exhibitionistic habits and regularly scolds her about it. Despite her dislike of Kaai's tendencies, Youen herself dosen't show much embarrassment when she's naked in front of people, as shown when she walked out of the shower fully naked while Touma Kamijou and Alice Anotherbible were there.
Moreover, Youen is shown to be efficient and methodical when doing her job as "Carrier", as opposed to Kaai's reckless behavior. Youen is shown to be affectionate towards her sister and cares for her deeply.
Biography[]
Youen's full background is largely unknown. What is known is that she and Kaai are the daughters of Kuchikusa Hanatsuyu, also known as Converter, who was affiliated with the Dark Side. It's unclear when Kaai and Youen became part of the Dark Side, given their young age.
Abilities[]
Pathogen Carrying: Youen utilizes pathogens and creatures that are infested with them (e.g. amoeba or fulminant bateria) as lethal bioweapons to attack targets. She can release pathogenic bacteria in the air that decays and ferments any material, both organic or inorganic, like human flesh or concrete. It can also turn solids into liquids and has a foul odor.
Animal Manipulation: Youen can use chemicals and pheromones to summon and control vermin, such as fleas, ticks, flies, mosquitos, leeches, slugs, centipedes, and roaches. She is shown to be quite proficent and versitile with this. She can make a clone of herself through dragonflies and grasshoppers, create sonic beams with tens of thousands of crickets, and cover her body with bees to make a psudeo-powered suit. Furthermore, Youen can attach butterflies to her back in order to simulate flight by using parasitic enlargement; a certain type of parasite can make a portion of its host’s body grow.
