The Youkai are an assortment of animal-themed creatures who form the Youkai Army Corps and serve as the monsters of the week in Ninja Sentai Kakuranger.
When they were defeated, assuming that they were still alive, they would summon the Youkai Lightning Cloud (the representation of thier signature Yo Power) and have it blast them with lightning which would force enough power into their bodies to make them expand to giant size.
Species History[]
The Youkai first came to be when humanity's negative emotions physically manifested and formed thier own group under the leadership of the most powerful of thier kind; Daimaou who also happens to be the physical embodiment of evil. Two thousand years ago, Daimaou and his forces ran amok in the mortal world until they were defeated by three holy-men who sealed them away in the Door of Sealing. Although the majority of Yokai managed to avoid being sealed away, they were scattered until they were united by Nurahiyon, who led them in another series attacks until they were sealed away 400 years ago by the ancestors of the Kakurangers. The remaining Yokai then lost thier powers and were reduced to being normal humans as thier Yo Power was sealed away with Daimaou so they spent the next few centuries in hiding.
In 1994, Kappa catches the attention of Sasuke and Saizou and gives them money to unseal the Yokai. The naive young men arrive on an island where they see children in traditional clothing surrounding the landscape. The main girl is actually Kappa who leads them further down to the Seal Door where he manipulates them into freeing the Yo Power and laughing at their faces. Since Daimaou is still sealed due to needing an entire ritual though, Junior takes up residence in a mansion but many of the early Yokai are initially independent and self-governing with thier own individual goals.
Junior makes his first move against the Kakurangers when he saves Keukegen from them and has Professor Yugami upgrade him with stronger weaponry to destroy the Beast General Fighters. From then on, with the sole exception of Enraenra, the Youkai serve Junior with thier ultimate mission being to torment humans and kill the Kakurangers in preparation for Daimaou's resurrection. Midway through the war against the Kakurangers, Gashadokuro is contacted by an angry Daimaou who demands to know why he hasn't been released yet. Gashadokuro has Umibozu capture fifteen children to invoke a ritual to bring Daimaou into the world that. Although he dies, the ritual is successfully executed and the Kakurangers are no match so go after the Super Ninja Beast Scrolls with Junior sending three Youkai to try to stop them.
Although Junior is later killed, Daimaou is successfully resurrected and the Youkai become even darker and more evil under his leadership. However, they are all soon killed with the last of the Minor Youkai being Binbogami. All of the Youkai from Kappa to Ushioni are recalled by the Announcer whilst recapping the Kakurangers' war against the Yokai during his feature on the Kakurangers. By early 1995, Daimaou has completely run-out of Yokai minions and has to turn to his disgraced siblings Yama-uba and Daidarabotchi but they are killed so he ultimately desires to be killed so that darkness will engulf the world and all of his Youkai will be resurrected. However, he is instead sealed away harmlessly and the Minor Youkai all swear revenge from behind the Seal Door. With Daimaou gone and the Seal Door sealed by the Doron Changers though, the Youkai will never be able to threaten the Earth again.
