| “ | I have discarded my meager existence as a phrasium lifeform. I have claimed this new body and new abilities. This is an evolution of my base form. Are you not much the same, Mochizuki Touya? | „ |
| ~ Yula announcing his new form to Touya. |
Yula is the main antagonist of the In Another World with My Smartphone franchise.
He serves as one of the two main antagonists (alongside the Wicked God) of the first 19 volumes and the overarching antagonist of the later arcs.
He is a power-hungry Dominant-class Phrase who is bent on planning to destroy countless worlds by chasing the sovereign Phrase leader Melle, before discovering a new power in the form of the Servile God, a traitorous member of the Pantheon who escaped from heaven so he allies with him until he subsequently betrays him to empower the Wicked God. He begins his plans to target countless worlds to succeed in his plan of usurping the Pantheon, leading to the destruction of countless worlds, as well as countries and the atrocities he committed during his terror for the past 5000 years.
He serves as the primary arch-nemesis of Touya Mochizuki and his allies, as well as Melle.
Appearance[]
Like most Phrase, Yula's body is described as blue-coloured and is made of phrasium.
Personality[]
Power-hungry and hypocritical to the core, Yula is a Phrase whose goal is to destroy worlds he encounter to achieve an even greater power enough to usurp the Pantheon and rule it for himself. He's also a manipulative traitor whose alliances are merely using others for his own gain. This includes his supposed alliance with the Servile God, of whom which he used it to betray the deity so that he'll allow the Wicked God to gain a massive amount of power from the deity and to himself.
Biography[]
The Phrase Invasion[]
For the past 5000 years, the Phrase were chasing the sovereign leader Melle despite her wishes. However, Yula had a different intention, whose intention was to take her power and use it for himself. He was the mastermind who initiated the Phrase invasion across the multiverse by using them to invade countless worlds across the multiverse. He was responsible for spearheading the attack of Partheno Sacred Empire and countless kingdoms and empires at the time.
Present-time of the series, he meets up with the Servile God, a traitor within the Pantheon who ran away and had his own plan to also lead Touya's world under his own rule. Yula then decides to ally with him to take over Touya's world and the Pantheon, but not for the reason he imagined. Instead, Yula sought after his own power so both of them initiated the Wicked God's creation, a powerful being capable of destroying worlds. But after their creation was done, Yula subsequently betrays him by allowing their creation to devour the former god, which caused the Wicked God to gain his powers and so as himself. With his plan in set, Yula then devours every Phrase to turn them into Divine-Class Phrases, as well as consuming the souls of humanity to empower it further.
Following the full-scale Phrase invasion between the merged worlds, Yula imbued the Wicked God with a God-killing substance known as Divine Venom, which kills a deity including Touya within close contact. This forced Touya and his allies to face Yula, where the Phrase would soon throw them into his pocket dimension, Niflheim, while he forces them to watch his friends and family getting slaughtered by the Divine Phrase. Unfortunately for him, Touya was one step ahead of him when he was able to escape his pocket dimension and empowered all of his allies, before subsequently stopping the Wicked God and his plans for good.
Defeat[]
The death of the Wicked God caused Yula to lose all of his powers, frantically begging Melle to get a honourable death in his home world. Due to the atrocities he committed, Melle instead executed him summarily for his own actions inside the dimension he created, thus putting an end to his terror.
Legacy[]
With Yula and Wicked God's threat ended, the Phrase invasion that haunted the countries who were affected by it is over. The remaining Phrase survivors including Melle, Lycee and Ney moved in permanently to Brunhild. Despite the aforementioned fact, it is revealed that the threat from the merged world is far from over as the Wicked God's lieutenants (Indigo, Scarlet, Hazel, Tangerine and Orchid), the generals of the cult known as the Wicked Devout, are at large and have emerged as the new, dominant threat after Yula's demise. This shows that despite defeating Yula, his actions still plagued the merged Eastern and Western continents.
Trivia[]
- While he's one of the two main antagonists in the first half of the light novel, his posthumous actions paved the way for the Wicked Devout's generals in the second half to continue the Wicked God's plans, as well as the arrival of the time-displaced children thanks to their actions.
