Yurei, formerly known by her human name Kiku, is a major antagonist in the 2021 Roblox story horror game The Mimic, appearing as a major antagonist in Jealousy's Book: Chapter III.

She is a demon residing in her namesake Mori/forest in Jigoku, whom Isamu was ordered by Hakamori to steal from and anger before engaging her in a fight in order to be able to escape Jigoku.

She is voiced by viviankato.

Biography

Jealousy's Book

Yurei first appears when Isamu does the "item search" in her Mori wrath forest, after some time during the minigame she will appear somewhere in the room, Isamu must look at her to make her go away. After finding all the tasked objects in each of the houses, the game cuts to a cutscene of Yurei stepping out of a tree saying that she will eradicate Isamu's filthy soul to "serve a better purpose", which she doesn't name, but it's most likely for her own needs.

After this, she engages in a fight with Isamu where he needs to pick up katanas from the ground and throw them at her, dealing damage. Yurei will unleash vines from the ground to harm Isamu, and also attempt to tackle him during their battle.

After some fighting, Isamu deals the last hit to Yurei, causing her to drop to the floor, she mutters something under her breath as she perishes and sinks into the ground, after this, a tree with a glowing door rises up in her place, allowing Isamu to leave her Forest.

Appearance

In her regular form, she has messy hair with a pale face, her mouth is slit, and she wears bright red lipstick, she also has black eyes with white sclera with and black pupils. Excluding her face, her body seems to be held together by twisted vines. Her attire consists of numerous flower hair pins and a long, stained white dress which splits on her thighs, which reveals her lower body which consists of multiple flowers and three soulless faces, and three white arms.

During her boss fight, Yurei is shown to have a dirty white dress alongside many branches and plants covering her. Her eyes are white, and her torso and limbs appear to be made out of a wood like material. She has pale skin and lacks eyes, with her mouth forming an evil, sadistic smile.

Personality

She is shown to be a cruel demon, baring a deeply rooted hatred towards human beings, for an unknown reason. She considers humans to be a race that "finds ways to be parasites over and over again" and intends to eradicate Isamu's soul to use it for a "better purpose" which she does not name. Yet, this seems to be hypocritical as the developers confirmed she used to be a human before dying and her soul is sent to reside in Jigoku, which may imply she was a misanthropic woman in life.

Trivia

• She is based off of the Yokai with the same name. Additionally, the name Yurei (幽霊) translates to "ghost."
• Yurei's appearance in the Mimic is inspired by the similarly-named monster from the board game Rising Sun.
• She is the second monster from Jealousy's Book to have a boss fight and the fifth monster to have a boss fight in the entire game, being preceded Saigomo/Kintoru, then the Ringmaster, then Nagisa, and finally Chenoo, before being succeeded by Enzukai-Ryū.
• Her boss fight is the first and only one so far that requires you to throw a weapon at the boss.
• Unlike the other boss fights, which appear at the end of the chapter's gameplay, her boss fight takes place right before the Shihyosha chase sequence.
• She is one of the tallest characters in the game.
• She is the second boss to have voice lines, the first being the Ringmaster.
• A lore writer confirmed that she was alive at some point and her name was "Kiku".
  • The name Kiku (菊) means "chrysanthemum".
• According to the Fiverr account of CTStudio, during the making process of Jealousy's Book: Chapter III, the developers missed out one of her dialogues and forgot to add it into the game. However, with the help of Viviankato, the voice actor of Yurei, the missing dialogue of her was added for free.
