The Zyldav Zentral Revolutzionär Komitzät, also known as the Z.Z.R.K., are the main antagonists of the Tintin book King Ottokar's Sceptre and it's 1991 animated adaptation.

It was an organization founded by Müsstler in order to achieve complete control of Syldavia. To do so, they decide to steal the Ottokar Sceptre to force the King of Syldavia, King Muskar XII, to abdicate, but their plan was thwarted and all the members were arrested, leading to the organization's downfall and dissolution. Only Boris Jorgen continued to be active after the organization was dissolved, until his death in Explorers on the Moon.

History[]

Background[]

The Z.Z.R.K was created by Müsstler before the events of King Ottokar's Sceptre, with its goal being the complete control of its rival country, Syldavia. Many members were recruited, including Alfred Alembick and Boris Jorgen, who was the king's aide-de-camp. A number of its members were people of high rank inside Syldavia, including Igor Stassanov (an ambassador), Jorgen, the Royal Photographer Herr Czarlitz, and the unnamed Captain of the Klow Palace Guard.

King Ottokar's Sceptre[]

During the events of the comic, the organization is tasked with stealing the Ottokar Sceptre to force King Muskar XII, the current king of Syldavia, to abdicate so they can reach supremacy and take control of the country, while also attempting to take down Tintin so their plan won't be thwarted. To do so, they use many tactics and plans to avoid him warning the king about the conspiracy, like listening to Tintin's conversations using hidden radios and even blow him up with an explosive package, as well as dropping Tintin off the plane he was boarding on into a haywagon so he can't reach the airport, which may be not far from the king's castle.

One of the members, Boris Jorgen, also made the king's guards take away Tintin to jail where he would be judged as an "anarchist". They also kidnapped Hector Alembick and replaced him with his twin brother, giving him the stolen identity of his own twin brother as well. They once successfully steal the Ottokar Sceptre and almost succeed when one of the members almost reaches Borduria, but Tintin stopped him from doing so, failing the plan in the process. At the end, the vast majority of the conspiracy members are arrested and the organization itself then dissolves.

However, Boris Jorgen later escaped prison and became one of the few, if not the only, member still active after the organization was dissolved.

Legacy[]

After the Z.Z.R.K was dissolved, Boris Jorgen then became part of an unnamed foreign power along with Wolff, who is the builder and engineer of many moon rockets but also the one who hijacks them with the foreign power as well. He was then smuggled into the rocket under the identity of a journalist, hiding in the cargo room. Later on, he would come out of hiding, knock Tintin out and bind him. Eventually, his accomplice, Wolff, jolted his gun as he initially promised to let Tintin and his companions live, but he was actually lying about it, resulting in a struggle that accidentally killed Jorgen, ending the organization's legacy once and for all.

Trivia[]

  • Boris Jorgen was the only member of the Z.Z.R.K who was known to be still active after it was dissolved, before his death.
