~ Tieran demands that Clifford be found and brought to him – his most famous quote. |
Zachary "Zac" Tieran, or more commonly known as Mr. Tieran, and simply by his surname Tieran, is the main antagonist of the 2021 fantasy comedy film Clifford the Big Red Dog, which is based on the children's book series of the same name by Norman Bridwell.
He is the selfish owner and CEO of Lyfegro who seeks to exploit Clifford for both fame and money, henceforth serving as Clifford's archenemy.
He was portrayed by Tony Hale, who also played James Suggs in Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip, Leslie Noodman in Sanjay and Craig, Apothecary Gary in Amphibia, Joker in Batman Ninja, and Doctor Psycho in Harley Quinn.
Personality[]
Zac is described from the film as an immature, childish, impatient, deceitful, and conniving person. He thought he can successfully run his own company to make a difference in the world, when in reality he has no idea how to. He would resort to bribery and cheating when he doesn't get his way. When his plans fails, he tries to ask his employees to help him out of any situation. This however fails as in the end, he owes the city a lot of money for his lying and damages.
Biography[]
Tieran is first seen in his lab running some experiments on animals that are mutated. At a meeting, he suddenly discovers Clifford on the news. He bribes Emily Elizabeth's former superintendent with cash to give him the information on Emily Elizabeth's whereabouts. He offered $1 million award for anyone who captures him when he reports that Clifford is "missing".
When Tieran finds Emily Elizabeth, he lies to Emily that he found Clifford first, which was false. He tried bribing Emily Elizabeth's Uncle Casey with money in exchange for Clifford; then after Emily asks him to give them a minute, Zac states that he hates children which is a horrible thing to say. After his bribery doesn't work, he has his assistant microchip Clifford and tries to take Clifford by force. Then, Clifford runs away from him. During the chase, he tries to capture him but fails.
It is then seen that Tieran is capturing Clifford on the news. Taking him to his laboratory to run some tests with his partners, Clifford was then able to escape with the help of Emily, her friends, family, and her former neighbors. He chases after them through Times Square and Main Street. He manages to catch up to Emily and Uncle Casey in Manhattan bridge park; there are still other people who think Clifford is property of Lyfegro even though he isn't, but Emily diplomatically takes care of that. Then after Tieran does a sarcastic applause, he states again that Clifford belongs to Lyfegro; after everybody disagrees again, he tries to manipulate them into thinking he wasn't just making up a story; he has the police chief do the honors of scanning Clifford's microchip after he stated "He was microchipped at birth". Tieran has excitement because he thinks that all of his evil mendacity is about to make Clifford part of Lyfegro, but instead; the microchip identifies Emily as Clifford's rightful owner, thus exposing Tieran's deception and true colors. The chief then informs Tieran that he will now be facing fines for lying to the police. Collette quits her job, but Albert pledges his dedication; and Tieran expresses that he doesn't care about him (Out of anger because all that mattered to him was Clifford becoming property of Lyfegro).
It is unknown what happened to the Lyfegro laboratory after Tieran was arrested, it could be that it was shut down or sold.
It's also unknown whether or not Tieran will get his revenge on Emily, Owen, Uncle Casey and Emily's neighbors for being the parts of what ruined his evil plan.
Trivia[]
- Tieran is the third antagonist of the Clifford the Big Red Dog franchise, the first being George Wolfsbottom and his daughter Madison from the animated film Clifford's Really Big Movie, the film based on the animated series. However, unlike George and Madison who have redeemable traits and redeem themselves at the end of their film, Zac doesn't have any redeeming qualities and doesn't redeem himself.
- He is similar to James Suggs as both are after extraordinary animals.
- Coincidentally, both are played by Tony Hale.
- However, Tieran is arguably less heinous than Suggs, being that Suggs wanted to actually kill the Chipmunks, while Tieran only wanted to experiment on Clifford, although it's never revealed if his experiment would've killed him or not.
- Zac could also be seen as somewhat similar to Mr. Bleakman from the animated series, as both are men who are antagonistic towards Clifford. However, Mr. Bleakman is generally friends with Clifford that is simply more annoyed with Clifford than anything, making him more of a jerk and a typical grumpy old man rather than a villain, whereas Zac is a genuine villain and enemy towards Clifford who actually tries to harm him (and other animals for that matter) despite Clifford doing nothing to him.
