Zachary "Zach" Hamilton is a supporting character in Season 8 of Dexter. He is a young psychopath who Dexter Morgan takes in as his "protégé" to teach him how to be a careful, methodical serial killer.
Zach killed his father's mistress, Norma Rivera, to end the constant affairs of his father and keep his mother from drinking herself into an early grave. Dexter caught onto Zach and planned to kill him to protect any possible future victims and despite Evelyn Vogel trying to convince Dexter he could set Zach on the right path.
Dexter put Zach on his table after stopping him from killing his father, but after realizing that Zach genuinely cared about his mother and hates himself for having violent urges, he decided there was something in him worth saving and let him go. Zach became loyal to Dexter and tried his best to help wherever he could.
Zach is tailed by Detective Joey Quinn, but solves this problem by involving family lawyers. He becomes increasingly annoyed when Dexter won't let him harm anyone, as he doesn't think Zach is ready. When Dexter's neighbor Cassie is murdered, he suspects Zach was behind it.
Dexter finds out Zach was tailing a killer named Shawn Decker at the time of Cassie's murder, and is proud of him for living by a code. Dexter realizes Zach was framed and the two resume their alliance. Dexter later finds Zach dead in his apartment, having been murdered by Oliver Saxon, the true killer, and disposes of the body.
