~ Zach's last words after being revealed as Mouse by Nightmare and accepting the Father's apology before sacrificing himself to save the camping group. |
Jack Logan, more known by his alias Zach Nolan and briefly as the Mouse, is the main antagonist of the Camping series.
He is a wealthy man who went insane after his daughter, Emma was killed in a car accident, and vowed revenge on the family that accidentally took her life. After slaughtering the family that caused the accident (minus the Son), he began targeting other people who came to other unrelated campgrounds to satisfy his bloodthirsty nature. He is the arch-nemesis of Nightmare.
Appearance[]
When in his disguise as Zach Nolan, Jack dons a white mask with black circular and triangular markings on the cheeks and around/above the eyes, as well as a large, demonic-looking mouth displaying sharp teeth stained with blood. He also wears white and black striped prison uniform he kept after his escape from prison.
Under his disguise, Jack Logan appears as an average-height human male with grey skin and a black shirt and pants.
When Zach was revived by his daughter, his body was placed in an olive green, mechanical mouse suit with large round ears and eyes, several crooked teeth and large sharp claws.
Personality[]
It's unclear what Jack was like before going insane, but as shown from his letter (even though it's a facade to mask his true intentions) it's likely he was an affable, friendly and cordial man who deeply cared for his daughter, Emma.
After Emma's death during an accidental car crash, Jack completely lost his mind and devolved into an incredibly vengeful, violent, aggressive serial killer determined to avenge his daughter's death by killing the family that ran her over using any means necessary and not caring about the potential deaths that could've been caused by Limbo's rampage at Gloomo Hotel, as long as she and her father got revenge on the Family of Five. For the remainder of his life, Zach was completely blinded by his rage, and as shown by the ending of Camping 3, likely wouldn't have started killing if he understood that Emma's death was a complete accident.
Zach is also a notably sadistic and depraved individual, preferring to stalk and hunt his victims at night and dwell within the shadows to remain unhidden before jumping out when the time was right. Owing to his sadistic nature, Zach is shown to enjoy terrorizing his victims before their untimely death, demonstrated when he taunted his guests as he was breaking down the bathroom door with an axe and peering inside to watch them cower in fear. Although he is psychotic, murderous and brutal, Zach is a genius inventor and a highly skilled and intelligent killer, having previously installed all sorts of traps throughout his mansion and constructing a fully functioning mechanical suit for Emma's spirit to inhabit. He is also good at hiding secrets, having installed multiple trapdoors and secret passageways in his mansion.
Zach is also shown to take pride in his murders and reputation, evolving into a very arrogant and egotistical killer who enjoys spreading fear and being known as a notorious figure in criminality. His egotism is so prevailing that it leads Zach to believe he can kill whoever he wants to and get away with it, showing that even though he achieved his revenge on the Family of Five, his murderous rage had taken over and lead him to commit more murders to satiate his bloodthirsty and cruel nature.
Despite his egotistical and demented behavior, Zach genuinely cares a lot about his daughter, Emma, with his killing sprees having been born out of his grief when she was unexpectedly killed in a car accident, desiring to avenge her death. Afterwards, he stole her coffin and constructed a mechanical suit for her spirit to inhabit so the two of them could get revenge on the Family of Five, even joining her later in his own mechanical suit to continue killing people at campgrounds, which was made possible for her care for him and creating a new suit for him to inhabit. In his final moments, Zach understood that her death was completely accidental and forgave the Family of Five's spirits for what happened, selflessly sacrificing himself to save the camping group from falling to their deaths.
Biography[]
Mansion[]
Jack Logan was a wealthy man who lived in an unnamed town and had a daughter named Emma. Given his expertise in mechanics, it can be presumed he was a highly successful and prolific inventor.
One day, Emma was accidentally run over by a car being drove by the father of a family, killing her. When news broke of her death and Jack found out, he was struck with an immeasurable grief and a desire to achieve revenge against the Family of Five for what they did, not knowing it was accidental. Soon after Jack found out about the incident, Jack stole Emma's coffin containing her corpse and hid it in a secret room in his mansion where he began constructing a mechanical animal suit for her spirit to inhabit.
Very shortly after, Jack sent out invitations to his neighborhood, including the Family of Five for a dinner he was hosting. Unfortunately for him, when the guests arrived, the Family of Five didn't show up, causing him to lash out as he was thanking the guests for accepting the invitations before leaving to check on the dinner. Needing to vent his anger, Jack decided to subjugate the guests to the treatment he would've given the Family of Five and planned to kill them all. When the guests exited the dinner room to check on Jack, they found him standing in the hallway as he revealed his plan to kill them all. Having already equipped a mask, Jack brandished a knife and gun and started chasing the guests, forcing them to flee upstairs and into the bathroom. However, Jack retrieved an axe and began hacking at the door to get in.
Seeing that Jack had truly gone insane and that there was no calming him down, the guests fled into the closet, discovering Jack's secret inventing room where the spirit of Emma sent the guests plummeting into an underground dungeon filled with various traps until they reached a room filled with spiders. After breaking out of the room, the guests discovered that Jack had boarded up the entrance to the mansion, forcing them to find an alternate exit. They entered the library where they discovered Jack stalking through and armed with a gun. Eventually, the guests managed to find a hidden exit in the library and escape the mansion, however, Jack followed the guests home and murdered all of them. Afterwards, he renamed himself "Zach Nolan" to distance himself from his old life.
Hotel[]
After finishing the construction of the Limbo suit, Emma's spirit possessed it and filled with vengeance, was presumably sent by Zach to Gloomo Hotel, the hotel where the Family of Five was staying at. Unfortunately, Limbo was forced to flee after the police showed up at the hotel, preventing her revenge from being completed.
Zach makes a cameo appearance in Hotel in a secret ending. If the player enters a room above the broken elevator that isn't shown during the main gameplay and waits long enough, Zach will emerge from the darkness and kill them, lamenting that he can't have them interfering with his plans.
Camping[]
Eventually, Zach caught wind that the Family of Five were going on a camping trip to Specky Woods shortly after the incident at Gloomo Hotel, and, as the newspaper in-game reads, caught up with and murdered them. Unfortunately, the son survived and would eventually become Nightmare through unknown means.
Not too long afterwards, Zach was caught for the crime, pleaded guilty and convicted, with his sentence remaining undecided.
Camping 2[]
Zach later on managed to escape prison, and, needing to satisfy his bloodlust and deciding to continue killing for the thrill of it, ventured out to Terra Park where a camping group was at. On the first night of camping, Zach ambushed the group and chased them away from the campsite with a knife, forcing them to flee to the cabin for safety until Zach retreated into the darkness. Eventually, Daniel returned and expressed doubts about what happened, leading to the group suspecting that Daniel was the man who attacked them. The following night, Zach activated several mines that had been left in the ground to try and kill the group and later returned to the campsite after the group went with Daniel to collect wood for the fire, allowing Zach to sneak in and plant a gun in Daniel's tent to frame him for attacking the group. When the group returned, one of them noticed the gun and entered Daniel's tent, leading to one member of the group taking the gun for themselves and confronting Daniel, believing him to be the killer.
Zach's fate is dependent on whether or not the player chooses to kill Daniel, who is suspected of being the attacker:
- Bad Ending - In the Bad Ending, the player decides that the evidence stacked against Daniel is too overwhelming and shoots him, killing him. The following night, the group enter the cabin to seek shelter from the rain, but the cabin collapses due to the ongoing thunderstorm and forces the group to hide in a nearby large hole. However, the group forgot to bring a rope to help climb back out and are forced to travel underground to find a new exit. After making it through various traps, the group confront Zach on a small bridge above a bed of water, surprised to see him as they suspected Daniel was the killer. As they begged to be spared, Zach states that he is entitled to kill anyone he pleases and charges at the group with a knife, killing them all.
- Good Ending - In the Good Ending, the player chooses not to kill Daniel, and the group go to bed for the night. The next morning, Daniel is confused, but relieved to have not been shot before stating that they had to seek shelter in the nearby hole due to an incoming thunderstorm. Once they enter the hole, they realize that they forgot to bring a rope to climb back out, forcing them to travel underground to find a new exit. After dodging several traps, the group confront Zach on a small bridge above some water. Upon asking if the group know who he is, Daniel responds by noting that he's the serial killer who murdered the Family of Five in Specky Woods and left it haunted. Confirming that accusation, Zach prepares to kill the group and charges at them with a knife. However, he is halted by the arrival of Nightmare, the son and sole survivor of the massacre. Horrified and unable to do anything, Zach could only look on in terror as Nightmare swiftly decapitated him, ending his reign of terror and allowing Nightmare to ascend to the afterlife.
Camping 3[]
Zach's legacy gripped Specky Woods and nearby towns with fear and eventually his daughter, Emma, still in the Limbo suit, retrieved her father's body and placed it in a mechanical mouse suit, reviving him and granting him supernatural abilities.
Deciding to team up to satiate their bloodlust, Mouse and Limbo headed for Wicka Peak where a new camping group had arrived alongside Daniel and a new park ranger named Steve. That night, as the group was sleeping, they woke up to the sound of distant crying and decided to investigate. Upon finding the source of the crying, they discovered Steve laying on the ground, but before they could do anything, Mouse ran over to Steve and pounced on him, swiftly mauling him to death before directing his attention to the group. Mouse then sends several bolts of lightning towards the group, forcing them to hide in the cabin until Mouse reluctantly leaves.
The next day, the group decides to wait until helicopters arrive to leave and decide to take shelter in the mines now that Mouse knows their location. Upon entering the mines, the group is prevented from leaving due to an avalanche, forcing them to eat one of their own to prevent dying of starvation before heading deeper into the mines due to the avalanche filling up the caves. Eventually, the group finds Daniel and head out of the mines and back to the surface, where Daniel explains how he found Steve dead and Mouse wandering around. Ultimately, the group returned to the lodge to stay safe until the helicopters arrived the following day. However, later that night, Mouse returned to the lodge and attempted to break in, forcing the group to flee outside where they discovered Limbo had also arrived to help Mouse out.
Unfortunately for the group, while they managed to dodge Mouse and Limbo's attacks, Mouse stunned them all with several blasts of lightning before piling them into a minecart that lead to the edge of a cliff. As Mouse and Limbo came close to rolling the group off the edge, the ghosts of the Family of Five appeared, stopping them. Enraged, Mouse tried to push the cart further but was prevented from doing so by the Family before Nightmare arrived seconds later to halt the fight, using his power to destroy the suits and reveal Emma's ghost and Zach were controlling the suits. As Nightmare declared it was time to end everything, the Father's ghost apologized to Zach for accidentally killing Emma and lamented that he too understood what it's like to lose a family member. Finally seeing straight and realizing that Emma's death was a complete accident, Zach forgave the Father.
As all this was happening, however, the group's minecart was still on track to fall off the cliff. Seeing this, Zach, relinquishing his alias and returning to his identity as Jack Logan, rushed over to the Minecart and put himself in front of it as he pushed back, stopping the cart. However, Jack couldn't hold on to the cart and fell off the edge of the cliff to his death, redeeming himself and putting an end to the horrors that plagued Specky Woods and the campgrounds that came after it.

Trivia[]
- It is unknown why he was only referred to by his alias when he was arrested, however, it's possible that Jack went off the grid and changed his identity as not to cause a scandal, due to him being a wealthy and influential figure.
- However, it's shown by the newspaper in Camping 3 that Zach's daughter, Emma is known about for being involved in the car accident that killed her, hinting that Zach's true identity as Jack Logan is known, but people mostly refer to him by his alias.
- He makes a reference to the famous "Here's Johnny!" scene from the 1980 movie The Shining, instead yelling "HERE'S ZACHY!!!".
- Mansion is the only game where Zach's full face and real name were shown.
- Although he's shown to be a wealthy man, it's unknown what Jack Logan did as a profession, but given the mechanical suit he made for his daughter's spirit to inhabit, it's possible he was an engineer, mechanic, roboticist or inventor of some sort, and his talents caused him to acquire the wealth he's shown to possess in Mansion.
- Zach's mask is an edited version of the Mime Mask found on the Roblox Avatar Shop.
