Hi. This is Thesecret1070. I am an admin of this site. Edit as much as you wish, but one little thing... If you are going to edit a lot, then make yourself a user and login. Other than that, enjoy Villains Wiki!!!
Zakal was an antagonistic Vulcan introduced in the Star Trek novel The Lost Years.
Born before the Time of Awakening on Vulcan, in Vulcan Zakal's name meant "The Fury" or "The Desert Storm" which was in reference to the sandstorm that had taken place when he was born. Zakal had formidable telepathic powers. He became of the last great mind lords on Vulcan, able to cause the death of enemies with his mind. Opposed to Surak and his vision of peace through the embrace of logic and suppression of emotions, Zakal and his followers worked to sabotage Surak's movement. Zakal wished to kill Surak personally.
By the Vulcan Old Date 140005 Zakal had been imprisoned at a retreat in the Mountains of Gol and was dying of lunglock. Unable to use his mental powers due to Kolinahr blocking his mental abilities, Zakal was left to die in prison. He was about 887 Vulcan seasons old, or approximately 276 Earth years old by then. His closest student and designated successor Khoteth had by then himself embraced Surak's philosophies and taken the name Sotek. Sotek worked to bring peace to Vulcan by taking precautions to keep other Mind Lords such as Nortakh from harming Vulcan further.
Stung by Sotek's betrayal, Zakal was further infuriated to learn that Surak's disciple S'task and others who would later be described as Romulans were preparing to leave Vulcan to give Surak's vision a chance to succeed, and dismissing them as cowards. Sotek decided to fulfill an earlier promise to Zakal by offering to transfer the elderly Vulcan's mind into a katric ark to be preserved, and possibly used in service to the Vulcan people. Zakal took Sotek up on the offer, allowing his mind to be transferred to an ark while his body perished in the hopes that he could someday have his revenge on Surak and his followers. Zakal's katric ark was then placed in the Hall of Ancient Thought by Sotek even though some of the other Kolinahru objected. It was later joined in the Hall by an ark containing the katra of Sotek after the death of Sotek's physical body.
About 2,000 Earth years later a young Kolinahr initiate named Sekar - who was opposed to Surak's teachings - broke into the Hall of Ancient Thought and located Zakal's katric ark. Thinking that Zakal would help restore Vulcan to its former glory, Sekar took Zakal's katra into his mind but was taken aback at Zakal's savagery and overriding desire to have revenge on Surak and those who followed his teachings. When Sekar finally summoned the courage to refuse to help Zakal any further, Zakal ejected Sekar's katra from his body, causing Sekar's death. In a final battle with Sotek, whose katra had been taken into the mind of the human Keridwen Llewellyn the katras of both Zakal and Sotek were destroyed, keeping the knowledge of using telepathy as a weapon out of the hands of the Romulans.
