Zao Shen is a minor antagonist in season 5 of the horror tv series Supernatural. He is the chinese pagan god of the kitchen. He is one of the many pagan gods invited by Mercury to a meeting where they discussed the coming Apocalypse and how to prevent it.
He was portrayed by King Lau. who also played Hideo Yamane in Arrow
Biography[]
Zao Shen was one of mutable pagan gods who came to a meeting at the Elysian Fields hotel where they were talking about the upcoming Apocalypse and how to avoid it. He is first seen alongside Baron Samedi sneaking up behind Sam and Dean Winchester and capturing them. They bring them to the grand ballroom to discuss what to do about them. In the meeting he suggests to the other gods to kill Dean and Sam. The other gods don’t agree because they think the angels just will bring them back to life. He then gets into an argument with the Norse god Odin about which god’s belief is most realistic. When Odin makes fun of his belief of the world being carried around on the back of a giant turtle, he says that Odin shouldn’t mock his world turtle. He then says “I’m gonna send you packing to Valhalla!”
When Odin calls him Boy he tells him that he is older than him. Next time we see him he is together with Odin, Baron Samedi, and an unnamed god. They are carrying a human and putting him down on a desk. He then chopps of the human's head with a butcher’s knife.
He then sneaks up on Dean and Sam trying to free the humans being kept in the freezer. He throws Dean away and grabs Sam by the neck but Dean stabs him in the back with a wooden stick killing him.

Unlike the other pagan gods in the episode he doesn’t speak english but instead Mandarin, the language from his origin culture.
