The Zidophants, also known as RA-047, are major characters of the RPC Authority mythos' alternate canon Cosmic Embers. They're an alien species originating from the planet Domovu with strong innate psychic abilities, which allowed them to become one of the galaxy's most substantial independent economic powers.
Overview[]
The Zidophants are small but dense creatures, measuring only 2 ft/61 cm tall and 3.6 ft/76 cm wide but weighing 110 lbs/50 kg on average.
Oxygen is toxic to the Zidophants, who breathe methane instead and drink water with nitrate ions in it. They possess palladium-storing organelles in their cells, allwoing them to exhale gaseous carbon dioxide. Their blood is blue, methane-carrying and based on copper. Due to the non-polar nature of methane, Zidophants have a lower efficiency of carrier proteins than humans and get tired more easily.
Zidophants live exceptionally long lives, having an upper life of 450 years and reaching physical maturity at 50 years (their brains, however, never reach full maturity and continue to grow until they expire from natural causes).
The Zidophants have a particularly strong connection with the Infoplane, allowing them to utilize strong psychic powers (for example, they can teleport utilizing the Infoplane). They also have a shared psychic network, for which a Zidophant must reach full maturity to access.
Zidophants maintain relatively supportive, if not overbearing, patriarchal familial structures. Innately, a socio-biological need for control causes their race to be xenophobic and dominating towards other sentient life. They usually won't trust interacting with those that don't belong to their species unless they're under the impression that they're the dominant party.
The Zidophants are divided into different social ranks:
- Dolneey - The lowest class, unable to peer into the Infoplane or Ursaplane. Most Dolneey are minors who will lose this title when reaching full maturity. However, some Zidophants cannot use the Infoplane even after becoming adults; these are called "True Dolneey" and are considered untouchable in the Zidopphant society. True Dolneey have little political say, are refused entry to most establishments and are frequently encouraged to leave their home world to live with non-psychic races.
- Roboceey - The middle class, which contributes to the aims of developing the economy, trade, efficiency, networking and expansion of the Zidophant society. They are granted a wide range of self-autonomy, such as the right to own weapons of mass destruction, a spacecraft, property, and foreign alien assets. Most military regiments are staffed with Roboceeys.
- Mówceey - The priestly cast, which plays a vital role in upholding the psychic network. They have immense psychic powers and most armed Zidophant squads will employ a Mówceey to link their combat forces to each other and the Home Systems.
- Myśli Boga - The highest rank in the Zidophant society. Myśli Boga is the god the Zidophants worship, who helps solidify their psychic network. Little to nothing is known about it, but various Infoplane-sensitive aliens have claimed to have glimpsed a powerful shadow lurking in the Sea of Forms.
Regarding technology, the Zidophants are underdeveloped compared to other species they trade with. Their technology is a hodgepodge of varying acquired technological devices from across the cosmos. It is presumably imported from factory worlds under the financial umbrella of Zidophant rule since Zidophants lack sizable construction facilities to facilitate the production of their technology. Regardless, Zidophants' technology usually follows two forms of function: it's easy to use (to the point it can be operated with a single hand); it's always downgraded and minimized to make it easier to repair. As for anomalous technology under the possession f Zidophant patriarchs, it's usually stored away from the public or sold off to other alien races (except the one connected to the Infoplane).
Biography[]
Originally, the Zidophants lived as slaves in a repressive, stone-age empire, until a religious cult of psychic Zidophant outlaws used their psychic powers of suggestion to compel an alien species that had arrived on Domovu to scavenge for devices into handing over their technological secrets. The cult used these innovations to conquer the planet.
Not much is known about the first contact the Zidophants had with another species, but historical accounts suggest that the they used their psychic powers to uplift a more primitive species (believed to be the Bakeneko) into a state of sapience through the alteration of their minds.
The first contact the Zidophants had with the GT ended tragically when the former's diplomats attempted to use their psychic powers to manipulate the latter's officials into giving them preferential treatment. Due to this, the Zidphants were expelled from the GT until they paid an insurance fine to ensure their loyalty; this insurance was never paid.
The most recent contant Zidophants had with another species was with humans, the Free Systems of Monoceros in particular. The Free Systems, unaware of the Zidophants' reputation, made deals with them; the Zidophants however were able to predict stock outcomes via their powers, which resulted in them owning 15% of all Free System corporations, either through interest or stock shares.
Despite everything, the FSM continued trading with the Zidophants and the GT doesn't officially recognize the Zidophants as hostile.
