Zion Thenardier is a major antagonist in the light novel, manga, and anime series Lord Marksman and Vanadis. He was the elder son of Duke Felix and Melisande Thenardier and one of the generals of the Thenardier army. He serves as the secondary antagonist of Volume 1.
He was voiced by Ryōhei Kimura in the Japanese dub version and by Clifford Chapin in the English dub version.
Biography[]
At their camp, Zion and his goons confront and insulted his rival, Tigre, and try to destroy his bow, but is pushed by the former. Zion and his goons leave when Mashas invites Tigre to the banquet. Following the Zhcted Army's ambush, Zion escapes from the battle.
Zion is ordered by his father to lead 3,000 troops to invade Alsace. Zion finds his father's plan disturbing at first and asked if this was necessary, to which Felix replies that the city no longer functioned and gloated the king's death. Zion follows through Felix's orders and prepared his troops.
Zion later meets a fortune-teller and one of his father's loyal subordinates, Drekavac, who gifted him with well-trained dragons and smirked as he continues to march his troops to Alsace.
After three days of traveling, Zion learned that all of Alsace's residents have already evacuated and its only residents were shrine refugees. He orders his troops to destroy Alsace and murder anyone who tries to escape the city. From afar, Zion looks at the Vorn Mansion and "visits" and plans to burn it down. Once he gets there, he confronts the Tigre's childhood friend and personal maid, Titta and chased her through the Manor Balcony. Zion subjugated Titta and attempts to rape her. Fortunately, Tigre arrives just in time and shoots Zion's hand, who cried in pain and fled to the manor's back door.
Once Zion returns to the camp, he is shocked to learn about the Leitmeritz Amry arrival and became Tigre's ally, prompted Zion to believe Tigre has "betrayed" his kingdom. Zion vows vengeance to crush Tigre along with his new alliance from his previous humiliation.
Zion led his soldiers in the Molhem Plains to against Tigre and his allies. The first formation of his army is defeated by Tigre and Elen in the battle, but Zion remained confident when the Earth Dragon halts Tigre and the Vanadis from advancing during the fight. Zion soon learned about an incoming ambush on the troops and deployed his 400 soldiers to intercept the ambushers. However, Elen uses her Veda to slew the Earth Dragon and causing Zion to lose his army. The general suggests using the Wyvern for battle, but Zion scolds him that he cannot lose another dragon and claims that not even one hundred soldiers would compensate with just one dragon's claw. When the 2000 reinforcement army was coming to block his army's escape route, Zion ordered a full retreat to save his own life. However, his subordinates tell him that they still have a chance to retaliate against the enemy. But the retreat was foiled when the Leitmeritz Army slain anyone who escapes. With one slain dragon and his losing some of his soldiers, Zion and what's left of his soldiers were cornered by the enemy.
After the battle, Zion confronts Tigre for his "treason". Tigre retorted about Zion's atrocities, who Zion sarcastically mocked Tigre that the people were merely "plants that regrow itself". Zion then challenges Tigre to a duel which he accepts. Tigre shoots at Zion, who blocked his shots with his shield, continued mock him. Seeing the duel was pointless, Zion charges at Tigre with his spear until Tigre's fourth arrow pierces through Zion's shield and wounding his left elbow. As Tigre prepares to shoot his fifth arrow, Zion's army intervened with the duel and tried to protect him. Zion makes his escape by riding his dragon. Tigre combines his arrow with bizarre powers, finally slain Zion for good. However, this would lead Zion's father to lose his humanity and vow to kill Tigre as revenge.
