~ Zoe talking to her sports balls about the gold necklace Simon found, revealing her true colors. |
Zoe is the main antagonist of the 2011 comedy film Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, the 3rd installment in the live-action Alvin and the Chipmunks film series.
She is a long-lost woman who claims to have been on the island for almost a decade. It was believed that Zoe crash-landed on said island, until she reveals she intentionally came in it to look for the treasure. She is also the former archenemy of Jeanette.
She was portrayed by Jenny Slate, who also played Dawn Bellwether in Disney's Zootopia, Cahu in Elena of Avalor, Valerie Da Vinci in Despicable Me 3, Mona Lisa Saperstein in Parks and Recreation and Harley Quinn in The Lego Batman Movie.
Personality[]
In general, Zoe is not an inherently bad person. However, she was altered by multiple spider bites over the course of almost ten years, which resulted her into becoming crazy, deluded, greedy, arrogant, selfish, delusional, and overly determined. So determined in fact, that she kidnaps Jeanette and force her to get all the treasure since she is small enough to reach it while a volcano is erupting. When Jeanette escapes, she becomes so furious, she tries to kill Dave when he’s hanging on to the broken log bridge for dear life. However, Ian Hawke comes to his rescue, and persuades Zoe to do the right thing and help Dave up, thus redeeming herself completely, to which it not only stabilized her mentality, but it also made her express remorse for her previous actions.
Biography[]
Beginnings[]
Zoe was presumed to have been stuck on the island for eight or nine years. It was revealed to be false as she intentionally came to the island and hunted down the treasure for over a decade.
Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked[]
In the film, Zoe is a delusional, crazy, selfish, greedy young woman who claims that she has been on the island for within 10 years with her five friends, who are all sport balls. She is first shown when the chipmunks attack her when they believe she is a jungle monster. Having met the chipmunks, they become friends and spend their time adventuring on the island.
She is first believed to have crash landed on the island, but in the end, she reveals that she intentionally came to the island to look for treasure. She kidnaps Jeanette and forces her to get all the treasure since she is small enough to reach it. Fortunately, Alvin and Dave save Jeanette, stopping Zoe from both harming Jeanette and getting the treasure. She sees her opportunity to get revenge on Dave for making her lose the treasure by killing him as he hangs on a broken log bridge for his life. Luckily, a reformed Ian comes to his rescue and persuades Zoe to do the right thing and help Dave up.
After everyone escapes the island, Zoe realizes her errors and sincerely apologizes to Jeanette for her actions. She forgives Zoe and gives the latter a valuable gold tiara that Simon (as Simone) gave her, feeling she deserves it more. They are eventually rescued by a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter and transported to the International Music Awards.
In the end, Ian reveals that he sold Zoe's story to Hollywood and Keira Knightley has expressed interest in playing her. Thus, this has restored Ian's career and made Zoe a celebrity.

Trivia[]
- Zoe has a collection of sports balls (i.e., basketball, football, and baseball) that she talks to as human beings. This is likely a reference Wilson the volleyball from the 2000 film, Cast Away.
- It was unknown how she came to the island to look for treasure, though it's somewhat implied that she either parachuted to the island or was able to use a boat to get there.
- Although she is the main antagonist, this isn’t revealed until the middle and the end of the film. She also redeems herself, thanks to fellow redeemed villain, Ian Hawke.
- So far, she is the only female villain in the entire live-action Alvin and the Chipmunks film series.
- Zoe represents what Ian Hawke would've become if he had ambitiously enacted a new scheme that could make him rich again, and didn't realize the effects of his past mistakes against his former archenemies.
- Aside from Ian Hawke, Zoe is the only villain who has met and interacted with Dave and the Chipettes. In the 4th film, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip, James Suggs only interacted with the Chipmunks.
