Zola Mitsopolis is a major antagonist in the 2018 blockbuster-action film Mission Impossible – Fallout and its 2023 sequel Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning. He will also return in the upcoming 2025 sequel Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning. He is an arms dealer, the son of Max Mitsopolis, the older brother of Alana Mitsopolis/White Widow, and a former Navy Colonel in the British Army.

He is portrayed by Frederick Schmidt, who also played Metallo in Supergirl and Travis Cole in Angel Has Fallen.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Zola was the overprotective older brother of Alanna and the son of late mysterious arms dealer Max. Grew up in an arms-trafficking circle when he was child, Zola has shown his interest in a world of defense and military industry. After finishing his high-school, he joined the Army and was assigned to Special Air Service. Zola fought in War on Afghanistan and War on Terrorism. During his time in the British Army, Zola studied several martial arts. He reached the rank of Colonel in the British Army. Sometime after the death of his mother, Zola retired from active-duty in the Army and joined the arms-dealing business with her sister Alanna. Apparently, he was using his contacts while he was still in the Army in order to expand the family's arms-dealing business.

Fallout[]

Zola was first seen during the charity event held by Alanna in Paris. He confronts Ethan Hunt after his roughly grab his sister's wrist in a conversation. However, Alanna told Zola to calm down. Later, in Alanna's hideout, Zola debriefs Ethan's and August Walker for their plan to capture Solomon Lane from French custody. However during the mission to capture Lane, Hunt separated from Zola's team and rejoin Benji Dunn and Luther Stickell to capture Lane. Zola was later seen during Ethan's meeting with Alanna and was shown furious towards Ethan, when Ethan met Alanna in-order to discuss the handover plan of Solomon Lane.

Dead Reckoning Part One[]

Zola along with Alanna meet with Ethan, Ilsa Faust, Grace and Gabriel at Alanna's party in Venice, as Alanna hired Grace to steal the key to the Entity. Zola and Alanna prepare to meet Eugene Kittridge on the Orient Express to sell the key. However, Grace shoots Alana with a tranquilizer dart and impersonates her during the meeting. Grace pickpockets the key from Zola and escapes, just as the real Alana shows up and falls into Zola's arms semi-unconscious. Zola angrily orders a chase after Grace for the key. He and Alanna likely escaped when Gabriel destroyed the train tracks.

Trivia[]

  • Zola and his sister Alanna are the only villains in Mission Imposssible: Dead Reckoning to return from a previous movie.
    • In addition, they, along with Solomon Lane, Gabriel and Paris, are the only Mission Impossible villains to appear in more than one film.
