Zombie Heroes are the main antagonists of the Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare and Battle for Neighborville games.

They are the main military force of Dr. Zomboss, they are countless Zombies with diverse abilities that fight on the different fronts of the world against the Plants for the domination of the World.

Overview[]

The Zombie army is presented as a diverse and organized entity, composed of multiple classes of zombies with specific tactical roles, designed to confront the plants. This conflict, which could be described as a "total war," reflects a perpetual struggle for control of Suburbia, Neighborville and other regions, with the zombies seeking to invade and defeat all non-zombie territories.

History[]

The origin of the Zombie Army can be traced back to historical events where zombies appeared from the “dawn of time” (30 minutes after the formation of the Earth). However, in the modern narrative, Dr. Zomboss organizes the zombies into a coherent military force starting in Plants vs. Zombies (2009), where he declares a formal war against humans and their vegetable allies. In Garden Warfare 2, the zombies manage to conquer Suburbia, renaming it Zomburbia, using advanced technology such as Z-Mechs, according to the description of the game in Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 - Wikipedia. Related comics, such as Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare, detail how Zomboss employs time portals and futuristic technology to strengthen his army, including the mass introduction of Imps after finding a “metal butt”.

In Battle for Neighborville (2019), after being defeated and trapped in a “Smell Jar” by plants, the zombies escape to resume the war in Neighborville, a new battlefield with regions such as Weirding Woods, Mount Steep, and Giddy Park. The narrative suggests that the time travel of Plants vs. Zombies 2 and the events of Garden Warfare 2 have created timeline disruptions, possibly placing Battle for Neighborville in an alternate universe or altered future.

Structure and Organization[]

The Zombie Army is composed of a variety of zombie types, each with specialized roles that emulate modern military structures. In Garden Warfare 1, four basic classes are introduced: Foot Soldier, Engineer, Scientist and All-Star, covering infantry, tech support, healing and tank roles, respectively. For Garden Warfare 2, the army expands with new classes such as Super Brainz, Captain Deadbeard, Imp and Hover Goat-3000, increasing tactical diversity with soldiers with superhuman abilities. In Battle for Neighborville, the army features 12 Zombie classes, including five new ones (80s Action Hero, Electric Slide, Space Cadet).

Although an exact number of members is not specified, the presence of standard zombies (such as Browncoat, Conehead and Buckethead) in the original games and variants in the spin-offs suggests a massive army, bolstered by the constant production of Zomboss in facilities such as Zomboss HQ (mentioned in Garden Warfare 2). The organization centers on the leadership of Zomboss, who acts as strategist and scientist, delegating tactical operations to the playable classes on the battlefield. This centralized leadership allows the army to adapt to the tactics of the plants, using everything from frontal attacks to ambushes and technological support.
