“ | Careless stalkers gone mad and turned into walking corpses. Many such corpses wander the Zone, some wander as far as the perimeter. They are beyond help because the destructive process is irreversible | „ |
~ PDA description |
Zombified Stalkers or simply Zombies are supporting antagonists of the Ukrainian FPS Survival Horror franchise S.T.A.L.K.E.R..
Zombified Stalkers are, technically a fraction much like the Bandits but in-fact, are like Mutants. They are stalkers who got exposed to psy-fields or Controllers' attacks for a long time. These stalkers lost their personalities, mind and even the ability to think straight. The only thing they have are instincts and habits from their previous life.
Overview[]
Zombified are people who got exposed to psy-attacks, resulting in complete lose of humanity, personality and mind, essentially turning them into mindless zombies that relay only on instincts and habits they had before. They lose many body functions such as pain, self-preservation and thought. They are completely immune to radiation which means they can fight in environments where humans won't survive.
Zombified Stalkers are the only allies of Monolith. Many Monolith members, especially on the Red Forest have zombified-like faces, which suggest that Monolith recruits them.
Origin[]
Zombified are, seemingly a result of a failed attempt of brainwashing stalkers into fanatics by C-Consciousness. Bodies of Monolith members can be found at the Yantar, which implies that Monolithians tired to open a second Brain Scorchers at the Yantar but they failed which resulted in stalkers becoming mindless zombies.
Locations[]
Zombified Stalkers are inhabit places near psy-fields, which is all of the northern part of the Zone, the only exception is Yantar which is located in the west:
- Yantar, the remains of a dried out lake and the valley nearby, particularly on the eponymous Factory. Due to the psy-antenna , powered by the underground lab X-16, which is also filled with them. X-16 spreads the psy-fields across the whole Yantar, zombifying unprotected stalker.
- Wild Territory, the lawless side of the Rostok factory. Zombies often come from Yantor to the Wild Territory, but due to the lack of proper intelligence, they burn to death in the Burner Tunnel, a passageway filled with eponymous anomalies.
- Agraprom and the Red Forest, in 2011 Zombies could enter these locations from the Yantar, but wouldn't go far: In Agraprom they drown in the Swamps: In the Red Forest they couldn't even reach the forest due to the instability of the region. However, both of these paths were closed.
As part of the Monolith, Zombified Stalker can be seen all throughout the northern part of the Zone alongside their brothers-in-arms.
Known Zombies[]
Zombies have only one factual member in the whole series: Insane Stalker From The Freedom Faction, who was driven mad by a Controller. But only factually, since he for some reason is labeled as bandit.
Vydra, a legendary stalker who, supposedly was a member of Strelok's Group, but apparently he vanished in the Red Forest, implying that he either was killed by the Monolith or turned into a Zombie(And than recruited by the Monolith).
Powers & Skills[]
- Limited Intelligence: Zombified Stalkers showed some sort of intelligence. In Shadow Of Chernobyl, the Zombies change weapon if their is broken, while in Clear Sky, they even use tactics and, while fighting, even use their surroundings to cover themselves. However, it might be just memories from their previous life.
- Enhanced Endurance: Unlike humans, Zombified Stalkers easily endure huge amount of bullets and can survive emissions, which are lethal to humans. However, they still can be killed just like humans.
- Pain Immunity: Since their body functions were damaged, they feel no pain and have no sense of self-preservation.
- Radiation Immunity: Zombies are known to wander heavily radioactive places and receive absolute no damage from the radiation, even during emissions, which is, essentially a release of huge amount of radiation, they show zero reaction from it.
- Firearms: Zombies have hundreds of different weapon, due to stalkers becoming Zombies with their firearms.
Monolith[]
- Marksmanship: After being recruited by the Monolith, Zombies are becoming much more like a real gunners and not just aimlessly shooting in hopes of hitting.
Trivia[]
- In Shadow Of Chernobyl, after the mission in laboratory X-16. zombies without a name began to appear, just "Zombified".
- In the early stages of the game, "Zombified Stalker" is the second phase, after going insane, of the "zombification" existed a long with a eponymous mutant, named "Zombie"
- According to the old lore, a stalker after being exposed for a long time to psy-fields would lose his mind, and then would progress into a Zombie-like state, before decaying into a eponymous mutant, Zombie. However, this whole concept was cut out of the game, therefore it's unknown if Zombified Stalkers have further evolution.
