“ | From all the fools that happened to fall here, moths seem to be the best hosts. It seems they have a better body suitable for magic. Maybe we should go out and try to get some more of them. | „ |
~ The Roach Scientists' notes, foreshadowing the creation of Zommoth. |
Zommoth is a minor antagonist in the 2019 role-playing video game Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling. It is a zombified moth fused with cordyceps fungus that was given blight magic and designed to be the ultimate guardian to the Roach Scientists, but went rebellious and killed them all, continuing haunting the Upper Snakemouth for generations to come.
Biography[]
In Upper Snakemout, immortality-seeking Roach Scientists were creating many kinds of Cordyceps Zombies, but they still wanted more. They wanted to create the ultimate, immortal guardian that would be stronger than gods. For that purpose, they created two unique cordyceps specimen, with one was given the power of ice magic, and other was given the power of blight magic. While the cordyceps with ice magic grew sentient and was deemed a failure and discarded, eventually becoming Leif, the other one was infused with a kidnapped moth, severely mutating them both into one powerful being. What they didn't account for was that it rebelled against them, killing all of the Roach Scientists and trashing the facility, continuing to haunt the abandoned lab for many years.
In the present day, Team Snakemouth, who were seeking the truth about Leif's past, were investigating the facility and encountered the huge vat, in which Zommoth was created. However, it failed to spark any memories in Leif, and, disappointed with the results, they turned to leave, until they heard the monstrous screech. As they discovered, Zommoth has found them and attempted to kill them. Upon noticing it, Leif identified it as his sibling, being completely paralyzed with shock, having Vi and Kabbu trying to protect him. However, Zommoth was charging up a powerful beam of blight magic, and just when it unleashed it, Leif came to his senses and protected the group with a bubble shield, claiming he has no siblings and could not be possibly related to this beast. After that, the team continued fighting Zommoth, and ultimately, they managed to kill it. After that, the holographic projector nearby played the footage of Leif's birth, revealing to the team that Leif was also a cordyceps, created for the same purpose as Zommoth. This revelation made Leif experience an emotional breakdown, but Vi and Kabbu managed to comfort him by claiming that, Zommoth prototype or not, their friendship was still genuine, and with that, they left Upper Snakemouth behind.

Trivia[]
- Despite the two looking nothing alike, aside from being moths, Leif refers to Zommoth as his sibling. However, it is more likely that Leif's cordyceps is addressing Zommoth as its sibling, as they were involved in the same experiment.
