Zote the Mighty is a minor antagonist of Hollow Knight. He is an incompetent and narcissistic self-proclaimed knight from outside of Hallownest, who is constantly getting himself into trouble, only to be saved by the Knight.
Biography[]
Zote is fist encountered in Greenpath being eaten by a Vengefly King. If the Knight chooses to save him by killing the Vengefly King, Zote will insult and threaten them, saying that they got in the way of him and his "prey". If the Knight chooses to ignore him, after the Mantis Claw is acquired, Zote will be killed, leaving behind his broken shell.
After being rescued, Zote can be found in Dirtmouth, reintroducing himself after forgetting the Knight, and boasting about his triumph over "a great beast".
Zote can then be found in a hall in the City of Tears, once again, reintroducing himself the the Knight.
Continuing his travels, Zote then can be found trapped in a web in Deepnest, where he will remain until ungratefully rescued by the Knight once more.
After being freed from his web, Zote can then be found caged in the Colosseum of Fools, which he assures was part of his plan. He will then be released into the arena as the final boss of Trial of the Warrior, where he will stumble around and blindly charge at the Knight, swinging his nail, "Life Ender", which deals no damage as it is made of shellwood. After being defeated, Zote will lay embarrassed on the floor of the arena.
After Bretta is rescued, he will be seen carrying the helmet of a Fool, slandering the Knight and telling Bretta that he is the new champion, as well as listing his "Fifty Precepts of Zote".
Upon entering Bretta's house, the Knight sees that Bretta has become obsessed him, having drawings, plushes and a statue in his image. Dreamnailing this statue will allow the Knight to battle Bretta's dream incarnation, Grey Prince Zote.
Zote can also be found in Godhome. If he is saved by the Vengefly King, Grey Prince Zote can be fought in the Pantheon of the Sage, as well as in the Hall of Gods. There is also a secret area above the Hall of Gods, where the Knight can fight as many Zotelings as it can in a challenge called the Eternal Ordeal.

- Despite their similarities, Zote is in no way related to the Knight.
- After being killed by the Vengefly King, Zote's shell can be struck and knocked around. Doing this will give the player the "Neglect" achievement.
- Defeating Grey Prince Zote once will result in Bretta looking depressed listening to Zote. After 4 times, she will leave Dirtmouth. After 10 times, his statue will turn gold.
- Defeating 57 Zotelings in the Eternal Ordeal will reward the player with an Eternal Ordeal start menu, with Zote singing the main theme.
