- For the character from the original 1977 anime, see Zuhl.
Zuhl is a supporting antagonist of Voltes V: Legacy. While he presents himself as an ally to Zardoz, his true loyalty is with Zambojil.
He was portrayed by by Epy Quizon.[1]
He is based on Zuhl from the original 1977 Voltes V anime.
Personality[]
Zuhl is manipulative, scheming and power-hungry. He is also full of pride and constantly gloats about himself even when the battle isn't done.
Biography[]
Zuhl was assigned to Zardoz after his uncle, Zambojil, sent him on a mission to invade Earth as they were sheltering his disgraced brother Baron Hrothgar, who leaked Boazanian technology secrets to the Earthlings. He was one of the three aides assigned to him, the others being Draco and Zandra. However unlike Zardoz's other aides, Zuhl was in fact a mole sent by Zambojil to kill Zardoz.
Zandra foils an assassination plot against Zardoz by spying on a conversation between Zuhl and Zambojil, and tells him. As a result Zardoz becomes angry at Zuhl and reminds him of what happens to traitors. Zuhl then tries to win Zardoz's favour by complimenting him but this is met with anger.
Zardoz often sent beast fighters to terrorize earth and devastate the planet into submission, but they were repelled by a robot known as Voltes V. To weaken Voltes V, Zardoz sent a spy named Judalah to find out the names and identities of the pilots. While Judalah was initially loyal to Zardoz, as he had her sister held hostage and promised to free her if Judalah obeyed his orders, she changed sides when she fell in love with one of the pilots, Bert Armstrong. Judalah would then try to sabotage Zardoz's mission by feeding him fake information about the pilots.
Eventually Judalah rebels against Zardoz and attempts to assassinate him. However, Zandra protects Zardoz by generating deflective shields. Judalah uses Zuhl as a shield against Zandra's attacks, but Zandra shoots anyway and Zuhl ends up being shot in the groin. Zandra manages to wound Judalah, but Judalah uses her stolen blaster to shoot the door and temporarily lock it. Judalah has a wrist device that allows her to be teleported to the Boazanian base where she delivers her report to Prince Zardoz of her findings on Earth and uses this to get away from Zandra.
Zuhl attempts to assassinate Zardoz but is caught in the act; to repent he leads the Voltes team into a trap that ends with them being sent to Skull Ship. Zardoz announces his desire to present the heroes as gifts to Zambojil and they duel against him, Draco and Zandra. Later, the Voltes team manage to escape. Zardoz then orders for the death of Zuhl since he failed to redeem himself.
Before Zuhl died, he begged his comrades to stand up for him, physically grabbing them as he was on his knees. Both Zandra and Draco stared at him with disgust.
Zardoz gives Zuhl the chance to redeem himself by killing himself with a dagger, but Zuhl tries to kill Zardoz. Zardoz then drives the dagger into Zuhl.
Relationships[]
Zardoz[]
Zuhl is open about his disdain for Zardoz. Unlike Katherine and Jangal, he isn't enthusiastic about Zardoz leading the invasion to earth. Zuhl is overconfident about his abilities to defeat the Voltes team, and gloats about victory before acheiving it. When he gets defeated, he disappoints Zardoz, earning his ire.
Draco[]
While Zuhl and Draco are supposedly allies, they often bicker and banter. Zuhl has an unfavourable view of Zardoz while Draco has a positive one, another point of contention between the two. However, him and Draco also argue over who gets to be Zardoz's right-hand (amusingly neither of them end up in the position as it goes to Zandra).

Zandra[]
Zandra and Zuhl are close friends and constantly talk amongst each other. However, Zandra was shocked when she spied on Zuhl and Zambojil's conversation and he admitted to wanting to harm Zardoz.
Differences[]
